About the Role
As our Kitchen Cook / Kitchen Helper, you will be responsible for preparing healthy, nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with Canada's Food Guide, Toronto Public Health guidelines, and all food safety regulations. You will maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen while working closely with the daycare team to accommodate allergies and special dietary needs.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and afternoon snacks.
- Follow planned menus and standardized recipes.
- Ensure all meals meet children's nutritional requirements.
- Accommodate food allergies, medical diets, and dietary restrictions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen at all times.
- Wash dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
- Receive, inspect, and properly store food deliveries.
- Monitor food inventory and notify management when supplies need to be reordered.
- Label and store food safely following proper food handling procedures.
- Follow all Toronto Public Health food safety requirements.
- Complete daily kitchen cleaning and sanitation duties.
- Work cooperatively with educators and management to support meal service.
Qualifications
- Food Handler Certificate (required or willing to obtain before starting).
- Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, daycare, school, restaurant, retirement home, or similar food service environment is an asset.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Ability to prepare meals efficiently for groups of children.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Friendly, dependable, and professional attitude.
- A Vulnerable Sector Check may be required.
