Job Duties:
General RF Technican
- Programming, assembly, repair, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance with respect to radio equipment, including: 1) radios, pagers, antenna systems, auxiliary equipment, data terminals, and remote controls (local, DC, tone), and 2) related activities, such as tuning of antenna system components (duplexers, filters, isolators), as well as performance testing and certification
- Cable and equipment installation in buildings and vehicles
- Assembly of custom products, such as portable communications kits, headset boxes, etc, including cable manufacturing and soldering
- Design and build simple electronics circuits
- Leadership role as assigned for specific job completion (commensurate with experience and which may include any of the following tasks: planning, organizing, scheduling, coordinating, leading teams, ensuring completion and quality)
- Maintain clean working environment including appropriate organization of tools and inventory
- Additional tasks that support other divisions within RadioWorks as assigned by supervisor.
Senior RF Techncian
- All basic duties
- Programming, assembly, repair, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance with respect to system-level equipment including 1) repeaters, dispatch consoles, trunking systems, data systems, antenna multi-coupling, etc., and 2) paging terminals, link systems, transmitters, as well as system design parameters, delay networks, overlap concerns
- Design and spec various systems, such as repeaters, base stations, remote control systems, dispatch centers, etc
- Industry Canada licensing
- Quality inspections and training junior staff
General Requirements:
- Valid driver’s licence and good driving history (ICBC Drivers Abstract may be required)
- Able to meet security requirements as required by certain customers (Criminal history check may be required)
- Able to perform the physical requirements of the job – indoor and outdoor; climbing/tower work; lifting, hiking, etc, in all types of vehicles, boats and buildings, and in outdoor rugged terrain and in all seasons.
- Overnight travel may be required
- On-call and overtime may be required
- Labour is billable with a target of 80% billable time
QUALIFICATIONS (COMMENSURATE WITH PAY):
- Successful completion of a post secondary course of studies providing relevant electronics knowledge, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certified Electronics Technician designation, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Radio communications / RF theory
- 3 years’ experience in RF communications installation and repair for general technicians
- Understanding of radio communications technology and systems including: base stations, repeaters and antennas; antenna filtering systems, specifically acquisition, alignments, certifications; dispatch systems and infrastructure, and functionality / redundancies in order to work effectively in field; interconnecting telephone and data networks; network and serial interface protocols
- Mechanical and technical skills and tools/equipment inlcuding signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and R.F. watt meters; installation skills (vehicles, buildings, towers); assembly skills, custom circuit wiring; sheet metal work, woodwork and use of small hand tools; soldering and de-soldering skills; surface mount skills; vehicle wiring and mechanical systems
- Ability to provide focused troubleshooting assistance to effect fault isolation to co-worker and customer inquiries
- Computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite and Microsoft Visio; ability to learn and use manufacturer programming and tuning software
- Soft skills: customer service, teamwork, accountability and dependability, communication, time management
- Project management experience (any size of project; emphasis on planning, organizing, coordinating, leading teams, ensuring completion and quality)
- Tower climbing experience (fall arrest / fall safety)
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR SENIOR TECHNICIANS:
- 10 or more years’ experience in the RF communications environment, with system-level experience
- Demonstrated understanding of communication site standards and guidelines (Motorola R56); R56 certification preferred.
- System level competency (for design, spec, and service)
- Industry Canada experience
- Computer programming and network IT skills would be an asset
