Job Summary & Key Responsibilities
Chem 1011/1021: Concepts in Chemistry I – 2 Lab Assistant – Fall 2026
The Instructor is primarily responsible for providing support for the lab component of the class including instruction to undergraduate students, supervising Teaching Assistant group, supervising undergraduate students, managing lab reports and assignments, and tutorial support. The Instructor may also assist with lecture support as required. This position reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Science through the Chair of the Department of Chemistry. This course runs from September to December 2026.
Course Description:
The electronic structures of atoms and molecules are used to explain the reactivity and properties of chemicals. Topics include atomic structure, bonding models, structure and shape of molecules and ions, and acid/base chemistry. It is recommended that students have Nova Scotia Grade 12 chemistry or equivalent before taking this course.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position
A minimum of a BSc in Chemistry (or related discipline); previous teaching experience in 1st-year chemistry at University level is a definite asset.
