The Quality Control Technician reports to the Quality Assurance Supervisor and is responsible for daily QC activities, including in-process inspections, analytical checks, and verification of product quality throughout processing stages..
Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend quality calls from the production floor.
- Pick samples from the production floor, ensuring proper chain of custody.
- Prepare and ship samples to third-party laboratories for testing.
- Maintain retention sample inventory, including organization, labelling and storage.
- Destroy retention samples that have met their required retention timeline and update ERP records accordingly.
- Complete QC testing such as water activity and moisture content.
- Perform in-process and finished product quality checks (weight, labelling accuracy, visual conformance, packaging standards).
- Escalate any non-conformances, deviations, or atypical results to the QA team.
- Participate in investigations related to quality issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and cross-functional teamwork.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Expectations
- Post-secondary education in a technical discipline (Food, Chemical, Biological Sciences, or similar)
- Experience working in a regulated environment (cannabis, food production, pharmaceutical, GMP/ HACCP) is an asset
- Functional capability with software (ERP, QMS, LIMS, etc.), and proficiency with MS Excel and Word
- Able to follow procedures precisely and maintain accurate, legible documentation
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail
- Good communication skills with the ability to work closely with Operations, QA and other internal teams
- High integrity, reliability, and organization
Conditions and Competencies
- Availability to work full time (Monday to Friday)
- Must have driver's license, or reliable form of transportation
- Ability to follow all policies and procedures.
