Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and hands-on Human Resources Manager to join our growing team. This role is ideal for an HR professional with a strong background in the transportation, trucking, and logistics industry. We're looking for a professional who can think long-term, while confidently managing the day-to-day responsibilities of the HR department.
This role will oversee the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, training and development, performance management, offboarding, health and safety, and HR compliance. This position supports a diverse workforce consisting of truck drivers, warehouse employees, mechanics, and office staff while driving strategic HR initiatives that improve employee engagement, operational efficiency, and organizational performance.
The ideal candidate has extensive HR experience, advanced knowledge of UKG and Samsara, and a proven ability to implement HR strategies that support business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full-cycle recruitment process, including workforce planning, sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding for drivers, warehouse staff, mechanics, and office employees.
- Lead employee onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a positive employee experience and compliance with company policies.
- Build strong relationships with managers and employees by providing guidance on employee relations, conflict resolution, performance management, and workplace issues.
- Develop and implement strategic HR initiatives that improve employee engagement, retention, productivity, and organizational effectiveness.
- Partner with leadership to identify staffing needs and create proactive recruitment strategies.
- Coordinate and facilitate training and development programs for drivers, warehouse employees, mechanics, and office personnel to support ongoing professional growth and operational excellence.
- Support organizational change initiatives through effective communication, planning, and employee engagement.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR data using UKG, Samsara, and other HRIS platforms.
- Administer HRIS functions, reporting, documentation, and compliance while ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
- Lead and support workplace Health & Safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and company policies.
- Assist with investigations, corrective actions, policy interpretation, and disciplinary processes as required.
- Monitor HR metrics and prepare reports to support business decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with employment standards, human rights legislation, occupational health and safety regulations, and company policies.
- Recommend and implement process improvements that streamline HR operations and enhance the employee experience.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5+ years of HR experience, preferably within the transportation, trucking, logistics, or other operational companies.
- Experience with Samsara or workforce management technology is an asset.
- Proven experience in full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and offboarding.
- Experience designing and delivering training and development programs.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation, HR policies, and workplace health and safety regulations.
- Experience managing multiple priorities and leading HR projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to develop and deliver training, support organizational development initiatives, and contribute to employee engagement.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use HR data to support strategic decision-making.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality while building trusted relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or equivalent HR designation is considered an asset.
- Experience implementing HR process improvements and organizational development initiatives.
