Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Life Skills Support Person to assist individuals with disabilities in developing essential life skills and promoting independence. This role involves providing personalized support, fostering communication, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in special education or caregiving, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Duties
- Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks
- Support skill development in areas such as communication, self-care, and social interaction
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each person's needs and goals
- Administer medications as prescribed, following all safety protocols
- Use American Sign Language or other communication methods to facilitate effective interaction
- Monitor and document progress, noting any changes or concerns to inform ongoing support strategies
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to promote confidence and independence
- Collaborate with family members, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to health and safety standards
Skills
- Experience or training in special education or caregiving for individuals with disabilities
- Proficiency in American Sign Language is highly desirable
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with individuals of varying abilities
- Knowledge of medication administration procedures and safety protocols
- Compassionate approach with patience and understanding
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexibility to adapt support strategies based on individual needs and circumstances
