Duties
The Atlantic Regional Office is responsible for federal prosecutions in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. The regional headquarters is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with regional offices in Moncton, New Brunswick, and St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
The region’s prosecution portfolio includes four primary areas of focus: prosecutions under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; regulatory prosecutions, including environmental and fisheries matters; proceeds of crime; and economic crime. The region’s operational requirements and geographic footprint contribute to a diverse and unique caseload across its offices.
As a Team Leader for Regulatory and Economic Crime, you will lead one of two specialized prosecution teams in the region, overseeing an interesting and challenging portfolio of regulatory and economic crime matters. Your team prosecutes offences investigated by a range of federal agencies, including Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Canada Border Services Agency, Canada Revenue Agency, and others.
Practicing in this region offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to work on complex legal issues shaped by our geography, history, and economy. Cases may involve constitutional questions, including section 35 Indigenous rights issues, cross-border criminality and regulatory offences arising at land border crossings, airports, and marine ports, as well as matters connected to fisheries, trade, taxation, and other federal regulatory regimes.
In this leadership role, you will provide strategic direction, guidance, and operational oversight to a team of approximately six prosecutors. You will be responsible for managing a diverse prosecution caseload, setting operational priorities, supporting professional development, and fostering excellence in prosecution services while ensuring the effective delivery of the Public Prosecution Service's mandate.
