Company Overview
Our client is a successful and growing company in the mechanical services business. PE backed since 2025, they have a diverse customer base across residential, light commercial, and heavy commercial segments, with a mix of recurring service and project-based revenue.
They are looking for a hands-on Controller who will own the full cycle accounting including the month-end close, preparation of external and internal financial reporting, job costing, project reporting, and staff mentorship and management. Managing a team of 5-6 ppl and reporting into the VP Finance, this role plays a critical part of day to day operations.
Responsibilities:

Own the full month-end close process end-to-end, delivering accurate, on-time results to the VP Finance

Manage all general ledger activity, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and intercompany entries

Produce the internal and external monthly reporting package including budget versus actual variance results analysis and supporting schedules alongside the VP Finance.

Own compliance with Canadian indirect tax obligations (GST/PST/HST), payroll remittances, and corporate tax filings in coordination with external advisors

Track actual project costs against initial quotes; build processes to flag variances early and escalate as required

Maintain accurate WIP, revenue recognition, and project margin reporting, in conjunction with the operations team

Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions

Support the annual budgeting process, including the model build-out

Support the weekly 13W rolling cash forecasting cycle, including updating weekly actuals, and build out of forecast assumptions

Lead, develop, and hold accountable the day-to-day finance team (AR, AP, payroll, staff accounting)

Drive process improvement and automation across the ERP
Qualifications:

CPA designation or near completion.

7+ years of progressive accounting experience

3+ years of staff management or leadership experience

Experience in trades, construction, field services, or other project-based businesses required

Experience in working in a PE backed company is an asset

Experience with QuickBooks Online is highly desirable
