Job Overview
The Cat Sanctuary Assistant Manager (“CSAM”) is responsible to assist the Cat Sanctuary Manager and work with RAPS Cat Sanctuary medical staff and the RAPS Animal Hospital medical staff to ensure the health and well-being of the 400+ cats at the Sanctuary, as well as play an integral role in facility maintenance, marketing and daily operations in coordination with the Sanctuary Manager. The Sanctuary Medical Staff Manager assists with the goals and objectives of building and growing the RAPS organization. This position reports to the Cat Sanctuary Manager.
Animal Care Duties:
- Input notes and review med book notes for each cat;
- Record all procedures and medications in the ASM database;
- Identify cats requiring medical attention; report bowel movements, urine output, appetite, etc. Record observations;
- Prepare weekly and daily medication spreadsheets;
- Prepare and administer medications, subcutaneous fluids, insulin and other treatments as required;
- Monitor feeding schedule for cats requiring wet food for dietary or medical reasons;
- Trim nails, bathe and groom cats as required;
- Book veterinary appointments and follow-ups as required and arrange transportation;
- Enter appropriate medical care instructions provided by the vets in the ASM database;
- Communicate health status and concerns of animals to management as required;
- Enter intake information into ASM database;
- Record follow up vaccinations, deworming and flea prevention reminders in ASM database;
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies;
- Receive orders, sort and store supplies and medication;
- Track vaccine usage;
- Oversee the cleanliness of the medical treatment areas;
- Restock canned food in medical treatment area.
Management Duties:
- Support and advance RAPS’ mission as a no-kill organization, following and adhering to RAPS' policies and procedures;
- Help lead the care of animals in the Sanctuary, including identifying animals in need of veterinary attention, determining adoptability and/or rehabilitation needs;
- Assist with the managing, guiding and delegating of work tasks to medical staff;
- Assist the Cat Sanctuary Manager with the hiring, training and supervising of Sanctuary medical staff, including scheduling shifts, organizing vacation coverage, managing performance and providing coaching;
- Help to ensure that the facility and equipment is adequately maintained;
- Assist with engaging and maintaining volunteers sufficient for effective operations;
- Help to develop, implement and provide ongoing support to volunteer programs as well as the animal adoption and foster programs;
- Help liaise with the City Shelter management team regarding animal transfers and adoptions as requested;
- Help promote and support the awareness of the RAPS Cat Sanctuary and related programs;
- Assist with the development and implementation of systems, forms, policies, procedures and protocols;
- Assist with all administrative tasks, including responding to emails and phone calls;
- Promote a team-oriented work environment;
- Help respond to and solve public complaints and concerns as they occur;
- Help field calls from emergency personnel after hours and determine the best course of action for emergencies when the Cat Sanctuary Manager is not available;
- Help provide strategies for cost savings in all areas of operations and obtaining donations of materials and products;
- Assisting in codifying the processes and procedures of the sanctuary.
