Skid Steer / Loader Operator – Earthworks & Underground Utilities
We’re looking for a skilled Skid Steer and Loader Operator who takes pride in precise grading, material placement, and supporting underground utility crews. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with ground crews and excavators to deliver clean, accurate surfaces and efficient material handling on civil and municipal projects.
If you’re the type of operator who can consistently hit tight tolerances, handle both skid steer and loader work, and likes being part of a strong, respectful crew — we’d like to meet you.
What We Offer
- Competitive wages with plenty of overtime during peak season
- Safety bonus program
- RRSP matching
- Comprehensive group benefits (Dental, Extended Health, Vision & Life Insurance)
- Steady, local work in Calgary — no camp or out-of-town rotations
- A company that values skilled operators and well-maintained equipment
The Role
Reporting to the Site Foreman, you will operate skid steers and loaders to support underground utility installation, trench backfilling, grading, and material placement. This is a hands-on position focused on quality finish work and efficient support of excavation crews rather than bulk excavation alone.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate skid steer and loader to place, grade, and finish material to tight tolerances around underground utilities, trenches, and structures
- Support excavation crews with backfilling, material handling, and surface preparation for asphalt and concrete placement
- Maintain accurate grade and surface quality throughout the project
- Assist with general ground work and support other crew members as needed
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently at all times
- Participate in daily toolbox talks and safety meetings
- Report any unsafe conditions or near misses immediately
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating skid steer and/or loader, with proven finish grading and material placement experience
- Strong ability to consistently hit tight grade tolerances (within 10–15 mm)
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
- Strong safety awareness and jobsite awareness
- Valid certifications: CSTS 2020 and Ground Disturbance Level 2
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and reliable transportation
- Physically fit and able to work long hours and weekends when required
Assets:
- Experience supporting underground utility or deep excavation projects
- Ability to operate other equipment (excavator, hoe packer, etc.)
- Active Confined Space certification
