Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Training & Staffing, the Training Manager, Academy Operations is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and execution of training delivery activities across multiple Training Academies throughout Canada.
This role ensures the consistent delivery of onboarding, regulatory, safety, equipment awareness, and competency-based training programs while maintaining standardized processes, instructor performance, training quality, learner experience, and operational readiness across all academy locations.
The Training Manager serves as the operational leader for academy activities and is responsible for ensuring all academies operate as a unified training system regardless of location. This includes oversight of academy scheduling, instructor resources, classroom operations, training equipment readiness, training documentation compliance, and learner throughput.
Working closely with Program Managers, Operations, HSE, Workforce Planning, Recruitment, and field leadership, the Training Manager ensures training delivery aligns with business requirements, workforce demand, competency standards, and organizational objectives.
The role plays a critical part in developing a scalable academy model capable of supporting workforce growth, improving employee readiness, reducing operational risk, and enhancing competency development throughout the organization.

Academy Operations Leadership
-
Lead the day-to-day operation of Training Academies across Canada.

Ensure consistent execution of training programs, procedures, documentation standards, and learner experience across all locations.

Establish operational standards for classrooms, training yards, equipment, facilities, and instructional resources.

Monitor academy performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Support the opening, expansion, and integration of new academy locations.
Training Delivery Management

Oversee the delivery of onboarding, awareness, regulatory, compliance, equipment, and competency-based training programs.

Ensure training is delivered according to approved curriculum, standards, and instructional methodologies.

Coordinate instructor assignments and training schedules to maximize academy utilization and resource efficiency.

Maintain training capacity plans aligned with workforce demand forecasts.

Ensure training delivery supports turnaround, maintenance, and project staffing requirements.
Instructor Leadership & Development

Lead, coach, and develop Academy Supervisors, Trainers, Instructors, and Subject Matter Experts.

Establish instructor qualification requirements and performance expectations.

Conduct instructor observations and quality assurance reviews.

Identify development opportunities and succession plans for training personnel.

Promote instructional excellence and consistency throughout all academy locations.
Training Quality & Compliance

Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and training standards.

Conduct audits of training records, assessments, sign-in documentation, competency evaluations, and learner files.

Partner with Program Managers to ensure curriculum updates are implemented consistently.

Monitor training effectiveness and learner performance metrics.

Ensure corrective actions are implemented when deficiencies are identified.
Workforce Readiness

Support workforce mobilization strategies through effective onboarding and training delivery.

Ensure employees complete required training and competency milestones prior to deployment.

Collaborate with Recruitment and Workforce Planning teams to align training capacity with hiring demands.

Monitor workforce readiness metrics and identify risks that may impact operational execution.
Equipment & Training Resource Management

Ensure training equipment, training aids, simulators, and practical learning resources are available and maintained.

Coordinate equipment requirements with operational leaders and academy personnel.

Support the development of practical training environments that reflect field conditions.

Ensure safe operation and inspection of training equipment.
Stakeholder Collaboration

Partner with Operations leaders to understand emerging workforce and competency needs.

Collaborate with HSE to integrate safety initiatives and lessons learned into training delivery.

Work closely with Program Managers responsible for Equipment Competency and Training Administration to ensure alignment between program governance and academy execution.

Support customer audits, internal reviews, and leadership reporting requirements.

Education
-
Post-secondary education in Training, Education, Business, Operations Management, Adult Learning, Occupational Health & Safety, or related discipline preferred.
Experience

5+ years of progressive leadership experience in training, workforce development, operations, or industrial services.

Experience managing multi-site operations preferred.

Experience leading instructors, trainers, or operational teams.
-
Experience developing and implementing standardized processes and systems.

Experience supporting large-scale workforce onboarding and competency programs preferred.
