Ridalco Industries Inc., an 80 year old, Ottawa, Ontario based manufacturer and custom fabricator of stainless steel, aluminum, and steel products, is looking for a motivated Shop Helper/Trainee who wants to learn the trade from the ground up and grow with our team. This is not a welding position.
The Metal Fabricator Trainee/Shop Helper will be required to learn how to operate a shear, punch, brake, stoke sander, bandsaw, drill press, etc. and learn stainless steel finishing and polishing under the guidance and supervision of the Shop Lead Hand and the General Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation Training: Assist experienced operators and learn to safely set up and run heavy fabrication machinery (such as brake presses, shears, lasers, or saws).
- Metal Finishing: Learn and perform material prep and finishing tasks, including grinding, deburring, sanding, and polishing metal parts to meet quality standards.
- Crating & Shipping: Securely package, crate, and palletize finished products to ensure they arrive at our clients' sites undamaged. Assist with loading/unloading products and raw materials
- Shop Maintenance: Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by moving materials, sweep work areas, organize tooling. organize stock room, clean lunch room and washrooms, tidy and organize shop as needed.
- Material Handling: Safely load and unload materials manually or using shop equipment (training provided for forklifts/cranes if applicable).
- Material Cutting: Cut, drill, and deburr small parts and metal extrusions using band saw, drill press, iron worker, belt sander, and stroke sander as required
What We Are Looking For
- Reliability & Attitude: A dependable team player who shows up on time every day with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
- Hand & Power Tool Familiarity: Basic comfort using standard tools (tape measures, grinders, drills) is a huge plus.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, perform repetitive tasks, and comfortably lift up to 50 lbs.
- Safety-Minded: A strong commitment to following safety protocols, wearing PPE, and looking out for your teammates.
- Basic Math Skills: Ability to accurately read a tape measure and follow written work instructions.
The following Training/Certifications would be considered an asset:
- WHMIS
- Standard First Aid/CPR Training
- Forklift Safety Training
