Position Summary
Dze L K'ant Friendship Centre Society is seeking a dedicated and organized Cook to join the Friendship Centre Cub House team.
The Cook plays an important role in supporting the health and well-being of children by planning and preparing nutritious meals and snacks in a safe, welcoming, and culturally responsive environment. The Cook is responsible for menu planning, food preparation, inventory management, food purchasing, and maintaining all food safety and sanitation standards. The Cook also supports cultural programming and special events through food preparation and meal service when required.

Key Responsibilities
Meal Planning and Preparation
- Plan and prepare nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks for children in accordance with Canada Food Guide recommendations and childcare nutrition standards.
- Accommodate allergies, dietary restrictions, and cultural food preferences.
- Incorporate Indigenous foods and culturally relevant meal experiences where appropriate.
- Ensure meals are prepared and served in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
Food Purchasing and Inventory Management
- Plan menus and prepare shopping lists.
- Order and purchase food, kitchen supplies, and related inventory within approved budgets.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate food supplies are maintained.
- Rotate stock and monitor expiry dates to minimize waste.
- Maintain records of purchases, inventory, and food costs.
Health, Safety, and Sanitation
- Maintain compliance with Food Safe standards, public health requirements, licensing regulations, and organizational policies.
- Ensure kitchen equipment, food preparation areas, and storage areas remain clean and sanitary.
- Follow safe food handling, storage, and preparation procedures.
- Maintain required temperature logs and cleaning schedules.
Family and Community Support
- Support cultural events, celebrations, family gatherings, and special activities through food preparation when required.
- Work collaboratively with educators, families, Elders, and community members to promote healthy eating and cultural learning.
Qualifications
Required
- Food Safe Level 1 Certification.
- Experience preparing meals in a childcare, school, community, healthcare, or similar setting.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Medical Clearance.
Preferred
- Food Safe Level 2 Certification.
- Experience preparing meals for children.
- Knowledge of Indigenous foods, nutrition, and culturally relevant meal preparation.
- Experience working in Indigenous communities or community-based programs.
