About the Role
CHHA is seeking a dedicated Grounds Keeper & Outdoor Program staff to support individuals from our unhoused community, Supportive Recovery Housing, and other CHHA programs. This role blends hands‑on outdoor work, mentorship, skill‑building, and the development of meaningful outdoor programming.
CHHA provides job‑specific training, hands‑on demonstrations, all necessary equipment, safety materials (with the exception of steel toed boots), and regular supervision to ensure success in the role. This position offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to community wellness, food security, and poverty reduction.
Key Responsibilities
- Garden & grounds upkeep - Maintain community garden beds, lawns, landscaping,
- Maintain outdoor spaces including up to 20 community garden beds, landscaping areas, and shared outdoor environments.
- Support participants in building confidence, work readiness, and practical outdoor skills.
- Provide mentorship through structured skill‑building and daily guidance.
- Contribute to outdoor programming that promotes wellness, recovery, and community connection.
- Help create safe, welcoming spaces that strengthen community pride and support inclusive neighbourhoods.
Requirements
- Youth aged 18-29 years old
- Legally able to work in Canada
- Experience in landscaping, gardening, outdoor maintenance, or related fields (considered an asset but not required).
- Ability to work with individuals with diverse lived experiences alongside our outreach team.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong communication, patience, and problem‑solving skills.
- Steel toe boots
- Commitment to trauma‑informed, respectful, inclusive practice.
- Ability to work collaboratively with CHHA staff, volunteers, and program participants.
