Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and energetic Mathematics Instructor to inspire students and foster a love for mathematics. The Mathematics Instructor will be responsible for delivering engaging and accessible math instruction to participants, helping them strengthen their foundational and applied mathematics skills. The instructor will support participants with different learning needs and levels of mathematical ability and help prepare them for success in their educational and career pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver technical mathematics lessons aligned with skilled trades training and Red Seal requirements.
- Teach practical mathematical concepts relevant to the trades, including measurements, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, algebra, and basic trigonometry.
- Apply mathematical concepts to real-world trade situations, including calculations involving dimensions, materials, angles, tolerances, quantities, and conversions.
- Teach participants how to interpret technical information, drawings, specifications, measurements, and mathematical problems commonly encountered in the trades.
- Prepare participants to confidently apply mathematics in technical training, apprenticeship coursework, and Red Seal examination settings.
- Develop and use trade-related examples, exercises, assignments, and problem-solving activities to reinforce learning.
- Assess participants' mathematical skills and identify areas requiring additional instruction or support.
- Provide individualized and small-group support to participants with varying levels of mathematical ability.
- Adapt instructional approaches and learning materials to meet participants' diverse learning needs and skill levels.
- Provide regular practice opportunities and constructive feedback to improve participants' accuracy, confidence, and problem-solving abilities.
- Collaborate with AEA staff, program coordinators, and other instructors to support participants' academic and career development.
- Create a supportive, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment that encourages participants to build confidence in technical mathematics.
- Participate in program meetings, progress reviews, and other activities related to participant success and program delivery.
Qualifications & Skills
- Post-secondary education in Mathematics, Education, Adult Education or a related field.
- Previous experience teaching or tutoring mathematics, preferably with youth, adult learners, or individuals from diverse educational backgrounds.
- Strong knowledge of foundational and applied mathematics.
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly and in an accessible manner.
- Ability to adapt instruction to different learning styles and skill levels.
- Experience working in community-based, educational, or employment-training programs is an asset.
- Knowledge of the skilled trades and the mathematical requirements associated with trades training is an asset.
- Experience supporting People of African Descent or other equity-deserving communities is an asset.
Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 per week
