We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Project Manager – Wastewater based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to join our Ontario Water team.
In this role, you'll combine technical leadership with project delivery excellence, leading multidisciplinary teams through the planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of municipal wastewater treatment, collection, pumping, and resource recovery facilities. You'll work closely with municipal clients across the GTA and Ontario to deliver innovative, resilient, and sustainable wastewater infrastructure solutions while supporting the continued growth of our Water business.
As part of one of the world's leading wastewater consultancies, you'll help deliver some of Ontario's most significant municipal wastewater infrastructure projects.
As a Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of complex multidisciplinary projects while providing technical leadership, commercial oversight, and mentoring to project teams.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead multidisciplinary teams through all phases of project delivery, including planning, preliminary design, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and start-up support.
- Manage projects involving municipal wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, collection systems, force mains, and biosolids/resource recovery facilities.
- Develop and manage project execution plans, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, health and safety, risk, communications, and change management.
- Lead technical decision-making for wastewater treatment processes, including:
o Preliminary and primary treatment
o Activated sludge and biological nutrient removal
o Membrane bioreactors
o Tertiary treatment and disinfection
o Anaerobic digestion
o Biosolids management
o Resource recovery
o Odour control systems
- Lead treatment evaluations through desktop studies, process modelling, pilot testing, and operational optimization.
- Manage project financial performance, including forecasting, fee management, profitability, invoicing, and cash collection.
- Maintain strong relationships with municipal clients and act as a trusted advisor throughout project delivery.
- Support business development activities, strategic pursuits, proposal preparation, and client presentations.
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior engineers, technical specialists, and project managers while fostering technical excellence and collaboration.

Here's what you'll need
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
- Minimum 15 years of progressively responsible experience delivering municipal wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience successfully managing multidisciplinary engineering projects with total installed construction values exceeding $20 million.
- Demonstrated experience delivering projects using traditional Design-Bid-Build (DBB) procurement methods, with preference for experience delivering projects through alternative delivery models such as Construction Management (CM),
Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), Design-Build (DB), Progressive Design-Build (PDB), or Alliance delivery.
- Demonstrated experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, quality, contractual obligations, and project risk.
- Strong commercial acumen, including project financial management, forecasting, profitability, fee management, and resource planning.
- Demonstrated experience managing client accounts, developing long-term municipal relationships, and supporting strategic business development initiatives.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop technical staff while leading high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong understanding of Ontario's wastewater regulatory framework, including familiarity with MECP approvals, environmental compliance requirements, and municipal wastewater design standards.
- Demonstrated experience serving as Project Manager or Project Director for municipal clients such as the City of Toronto, York Region, Peel Region, Durham Region, Halton Region, or other Ontario municipalities, with an understanding of their standards, governance, approval processes, and stakeholder expectations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal project management training or certification (e.g., PMP or equivalent).
- Experience supporting commissioning and operational optimization of wastewater treatment facilities.
- Active participation in WEAO, WEF, or related professional organizations.

The base salary range for this position is $150,000.00 to $200,000.00. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across Ontario, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
