As a Family Support Worker, you’ll provide supervised visits and family support in a safe, neutral, and structured environment. You’ll help children maintain important relationships with parents and family members while ensuring their safety and well-being comes first.

What You’ll Do
Family Support Workers supervise visits between children and family members and provide support in a safe, neutral, and structured environment. Visits are commonly arranged in family law, separation/divorce, and child protection matters.
You will:
- Facilitate and supervise visits and exchanges in accordance with court orders, agency protocols, and safety requirements.
- Act as an impartial third party, keeping the child’s best interests at the centre of your work.
- Monitor parent-child interactions and respond appropriately if concerns or inappropriate behaviours arise.
- Maintain a safe environment for children physically, emotionally, and psychologically.
- Take detailed, objective notes regarding parent-child interactions, behaviours, concerns, and responses.
- Complete and submit professional visit reports within required timelines.
- Transport children and/or families when required, using appropriate car seats and following all applicable regulations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Communicate professionally with families, agencies, legal professionals, and other service providers.
- When required, provide factual observations or testify in court or other legal proceedings.

What We’re Looking For
Minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 education; post-secondary education in human services, social services, child and youth care, psychology, or a related field is an asset.
- Previous experience working with children, youth, families, or individuals experiencing challenging circumstances.
- Experience in social services, family support, child protection, community services, or a related setting is highly valued.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to write clear, factual, and objective reports.
- Ability to manage conflict and remain composed in difficult situations.
- Strong work ethic and excellent follow-through.
- Good judgment, practical problem-solving skills, and common sense.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while following established policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with Trauma-Informed Care approaches is an asset.
Required Credentials & Transportation
Successful candidates must be able to provide:
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, current within three months of the hire date.
- Clear Social Development Check.
- Current First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driving abstract.
- Reliable vehicle in good working condition.
- Proof of valid vehicle insurance with $1 million liability coverage.
- Professional reference from a current or most recent supervisor.
Availability - This Is Important
Our families don’t always need support during traditional 9-5 hours.
We are specifically looking for people who are available after school and/or on weekends.
Typical weekday availability is 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with weekend visits occurring in the morning, afternoon, and/or early evening.
You don’t necessarily need to be available every day, but reliable, consistent availability is essential. We need people we can confidently schedule with families and know they will show up and follow through.
