Engagement Overview
Insight Global, in partnership with a technology company, is deploying a large-scale GPU data center in Mackenzie, BC supporting the IREN Mackenzie B300 build-out. The engagement covers 644 racks and approximately 50,000 servers across air-cooled GPU infrastructure with NVIDIA SN5610 leaf/spine switching and XE9780 GPU servers. This is a fixed-fee, outcome-based engagement with a 50-person team operating across two shifts, 6 to 7 days per week. Data Center Deployment Technicians (L1) are the core installation workforce, executing physical rack-and-stack, cable preparation, pre-bundling, and general site support under the direction of senior technicians.
Position Summary
The DC / Deployment Technician (L1) is an entry to junior-level role supporting the physical build-out of a large-scale GPU data center. Working within an assigned pod under the direction of a Network Technician (L2-L3 anchor), the L1 technician performs rack-and-stack operations, cable preparation and pre-bundling, labeling, tray work, and general site execution tasks. This role is ideal for individuals with foundational data center or telecom experience who are ready to contribute at pace in a structured, high-volume deployment.

Approximately 8 weeks (including ~2 weeks mobilization and prep)

6 to 7 days per week; shift rotation (day/evening); optional OT available
Reports To
Network Technician (Pod Anchor) / Technical Lead
Key Responsibilities
- Perform rack-and-stack activities for servers, switches, and networking hardware per build plans and rack elevation diagrams
- Assist with installation and routing of single-mode fiber optic cable across east-west GPU fabric, north-south management fabric, and storage backend
- Execute cable pre-bundling and pre-labeling for EW, NS, and storage cable runs ahead of rack-level deployment
- Route cables through overhead trays, cable management arms, and structured pathways in accordance with site floor layout
- Maintain accurate cable labeling consistent with BOM and design documentation under the direction of the pod anchor technician
- Support quality checks and basic connectivity validation activities as directed by the Network Technician or Technical Lead
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site throughout all phases of the deployment
- Follow structured deployment processes and build plans with high attention to detail and process adherence
- Adhere to all client site requirements at all times: access protocols, work area standards, and any procedural directives communicated by the Technical Lead or pod anchor
- Comply fully with all site safety standards including PPE requirements, ESD protocols, energized equipment safety, and cooling infrastructure no-contact boundaries; raise any safety concern immediately to the supervising technician
- Escalate site issues, safety concerns, or design discrepancies immediately to the supervising technician
Required Qualifications
- Up to 3 years of experience in a data center, telecom, IT infrastructure, or structured cabling environment
- Hands-on familiarity with fiber optic or structured cabling; ability to handle, route, and dress cable with care and accuracy
- Basic understanding of data center physical infrastructure: rack units, cable trays, patch panel organization, and cabling standards
- Ability to follow build plans, rack elevation diagrams, and written or verbal instructions accurately in a fast-paced deployment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to process adherence and quality standards
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a pod team in a physically demanding, high-output environment
- Physical capability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform overhead and close-tolerance work for extended shift durations
- Valid passport; ability to travel to and remain on-site in Mackenzie, BC for the full engagement duration
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting a large-scale data center deployment, build-out, or refresh
- Exposure to single-mode fiber optic cable types, MPO/MTP connectors, or fan-out assemblies
- Familiarity with rack-and-stack procedures for server or networking hardware in a production environment
- CompTIA Server+, BICSI INST1, FOA CFOT, or equivalent entry-level certification
- Experience working in a remote job site or structured field service environment
Working Conditions
- Fully on-site in Mackenzie, BC - remote northern location; travel and lodging are covered and reimbursed per Insight Global expense policy; candidates are responsible for paying expenses upfront and submitting for reimbursement weekly with their timesheet
- 6 to 7 day work weeks; 40-hour base schedule with optional overtime
- Physically demanding environment: prolonged standing, bending, overhead work, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Safety-first culture; full compliance with all site safety standards and PPE requirements is mandatory; site-specific safety orientation required upon mobilization
- All client site requirements must be observed at all times including access protocols, work area cleanliness, documentation standards, and any procedural directives issued by technical PM
Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
