Our client, a well-established civil construction contractor with a strong and growing presence in Alberta, is seeking a Superintendent to oversee a busy pipeline of projects in the Edmonton region. The company is actively delivering work across commercial, industrial, oil & gas, and residential sectors, with a particular emphasis on piling and deep foundation scopes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee day-to-day field operations on multiple piling and foundation projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification.
- Coordinate labour, equipment, subcontractors, and material deliveries to maintain project schedules and productivity targets.
- Work closely with Project Managers to develop execution plans, schedules, and resource requirements.
- Monitor project progress, production rates, and field costs, identifying and addressing potential issues proactively.
- Conduct regular site meetings with crews, subcontractors, consultants, and clients.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, production tracking, and site documentation.
- Lead and promote a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with company Health & Safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Review drawings, specifications, and project documents, identifying and resolving constructability concerns.
- Mentor and supervise Foremen, Operators, and field personnel, supporting workforce development and team performance.
- Coordinate project closeout activities, deficiencies, and turnover documentation.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a Superintendent, General Superintendent, Foreman, or similar leadership role within civil construction.
- Experience managing piling, deep foundations, shoring, or related ground improvement projects is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, productivity tracking, and project execution.
- Proven ability to lead crews, coordinate subcontractors, and manage multiple stakeholders on active construction sites.
- Solid understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta construction safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced construction environment.
