We are looking for a Family Law Legal Assistant with excellent administrative, computer and people skills. Formal Legal Assistant training and at least 2 years working as a Legal Assistant is preferred. Experience working in a Family Law is a bonus! A good attitude, proven work ethic, core competencies, and personal integrity may be considered in place of formal training and experience.
Overview of Position: The Family Law Legal Assistant position is responsible for all aspects of file management (electronic and hard copy of files) and administrative procedures related to Family Law files from new Client inquiries and conflict checks through posting disbursements, billing and closing files. The Legal Assistant must have the capacity to manage a portfolio of Family files, multi-task and stay on top of deadlines and demands. The position involves problem-solving on a daily basis and being comfortable with ever-changing priorities. Some days are very demanding with urgent deadlines and matters, and other days we are able to slow down, catch up and ensure all the administrative systems are updated. The pace of work in Family Law private practice is always variable from day to day and the person best suited to this role must be comfortable with this change of pace according to the demands of the day.
The Legal Assistant position is key to the "business" side of a Family practice by ensuring clients have retainer funds in trust before the lawyer does the work, and then in billing and collecting on Accounts. The Legal Assistant is also essential to maintaining regular communications with clients and scheduling. And the Legal Assistant is a key player in a team approach to providing responsive, client-centred legal services.

- Minimum of a high school Diploma plus Legal Assistant Diploma. Post-Secondary education preferred.
- Knowledge of EsiLaw would be a bonus.
Work Hours: Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
