Vision Sorting Machine Programmer / Operator
Job Summary
The Quality Engineer is responsible for working with customers and suppliers to ensure quality expectations are met and strong business relationships are maintained. This position combines quality engineering responsibilities with hands-on programming, setup, validation, troubleshooting, and operation of automated vision sorting and optical inspection equipment.
Required Education and Experience
· Community college diploma or degree in Quality, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
· Minimum five years of automotive manufacturing quality experience.
· Minimum three years of hands-on experience programming, setting up, troubleshooting, and operating automated vision sorting machines.
· Experience with fastener sorting machines and optical inspection systems is required.
· Experience with CMM and precision measuring equipment, including verniers, micrometers, height gauges, and profile projectors.
· Working knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, and corrective action processes.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and GD&T.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
· Excellent organizational, time-management, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
· Participate in daily quality control planning, inspection, and improvement activities.
· Liaise with suppliers and customers to ensure timely resolution of quality concerns, including travel to supplier or customer locations when required.
· Notify suppliers and customers of potential quality issues and provide practical recommendations for resolution.
· Program, set up, validate, operate, and monitor automated vision sorting and optical inspection machines.
· Develop and optimize sorting programs and inspection recipes based on customer specifications, engineering drawings, samples, and approved defect criteria.
· Train and support operators in safe machine setup, operation, inspection verification, part changeover, and basic troubleshooting.
· Monitor sorting accuracy, throughput, false-reject rates, downtime, and overall machine performance; implement improvements where required.
· Organize containment and sorting activities for non-conforming or suspect supplied product, ensuring proper identification, segregation, traceability, and disposition.
· Conduct root cause analysis and support timely implementation and verification of corrective and preventive actions.
· Participate in Team-Oriented Problem Solving and continuous improvement activities.
· Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning and prepare, review, or approve PPAP submissions as required.
· Maintain current APQP and quality documentation, including Control Plans, PFMEAs, inspection instructions, MSA studies, and related records.
· Review non-conforming or suspected product and recommend disposition in a timely manner while ensuring formal corrective actions are completed within customer requirements.
· Support variability reduction, process improvement, defect prevention, and manufacturing process robustness.
· Ensure departmental records and documents are properly maintained and controlled in accordance with ISO/IATF.
· Participate in process audits and internal quality audits to evaluate the effectiveness of the quality management system.
· Conduct supplier assessments and supplier audits as required.
· Prioritize and manage multiple parts, projects, customer requirements, and deadlines.
· Use required Personal Protective Equipment and comply with all Health and Safety, Quality, Environmental, and Human Resources policies.
Preferred Technical Skills
· Experience with CCT or similar automated vision sorting systems used for fasteners and precision components.
· Knowledge of optical inspection, image processing, lighting selection, camera setup, defect detection, and measurement calibration.
· Experience in inspecting automotive fasteners and other mechanical parts
· Familiarity with PLCs, sensors, eddy-current inspection, gauging, machine networking, and preventive maintenance.
Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
