Job Summary
The Centre for Collaborative Clinical Learning & Research (C3LR) provides space and resources for experiential learning and research. The C3LR offers innovative educational opportunities for multi-health discipline, uni-professional, and interprofessional education through simulation, interprofessional collaboration, and innovative pedagogies that lead to improved transition of graduates to their professional practice areas. Reporting to the IT services manager, the Simulation Application Developer will support operational and administrative aspects of simulated and experiential learning at the C3LR. Develops Python-based software tools and data integrations for medical education simulation centres in Halifax, Saint John, and Sydney, and creates documentation and training materials for users.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy custom software solutions that support scheduling, video recording management, automated audio announcements, and other operational needs of simulation centres.
- Analyze business requirements, troubleshoot technical issues, and implement innovative solutions that integrate effectively with existing systems and workflows.
- Develop and maintain secure applications and data processes in compliance with organizational data governance, privacy, and security standards.
- Create and execute unit tests to ensure software reliability, performance, and compatibility with existing functionality.
- Develop, maintain, and update technical documentation, user guides, and training materials to support end-user adoption and system effectiveness.
- Manage Amazon Web Services Simple Storage Service (AWS S3) storage access and policies, conduct access audits, and maintain current expertise in software development, emerging technologies, and project management best practices.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field plus a minimum of three years’ relevant (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Experience designing, developing, testing, and deploying software applications using Python and modern software development practices.
- Experience integrating applications with application programming interfaces (APIs), databases, local file systems, and cloud-based services.
- Knowledge of data security, privacy, access management, and data governance principles.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to gather business requirements and develop technical documentation, user guides, and training materials.
Assets
- Amazon Web Services Simple Storage Service (AWS S3) Certified Cloud Practitioner certification or experience working with AWS services, particularly Amazon S3 and access management.
- Experience developing graphical user interfaces (GUIs), desktop applications, and user-focused software solutions.
- Experience with Docker, audio and video software (FFmpeg), video recording technologies, IP cameras, or media management systems.
- Experience working in healthcare, higher education, simulation-based learning environments, or other client-focused technical environments.
