We are looking for an experienced and driven Project Controls Specialist who is excited to contribute to meaningful projects and collaborate with a strong, high-performing team. This role can be based in any of our Procon offices in Burnaby, BC, Nisku, AB, or Saskatoon, SK.
Position Summary
The Project Controls Specialist plays a critical role in enhancing Procon’s financial efficiency and project management performance. This position is responsible for a wide range of cost control and project controls functions, ensuring accurate cost estimation, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. By providing timely and reliable project insights, the Project Controls Specialist directly supports project success, operational excellence, and overall profitability.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Project Controls Specialist include, but are not limited to:
- Work Breakdown Structure — Prepare and maintain WBS and chart of accounts for individual projects.
- Project Budgeting — Develop and maintain project budgets based on approved estimates.
- Performance Analysis — Analyze job performance against benchmarks and identify variances from the original budget.
- Project Billing — Prepare and review bi-weekly project billings, including labor, equipment, and materials.
- Contract Compliance — Ensure billed work aligns with contract terms and approved budgets.
- Scope Monitoring — Monitor field activities for work performed outside the contract scope.
- Cost Reporting — Prepare and review monthly cost-variance reports for assigned projects.
- Project Scheduling — Develop and maintain general and detailed project schedules.
- Forecast Review — Review cost and revenue forecasts for completeness and assess changes relative to budget.
- Financial Insights — Provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Ad-Hoc Analysis — Support project management with scenario analysis and special requests.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in Project Controls; experience in mining, industrial construction, or heavy civil environments strongly preferred.
- Education Requirements — Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Finance, or a related field; a technical diploma with relevant experience will be considered.
- Strong mathematical acumen, critical thinking, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of purchasing and scheduling software systems.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset.
- Positive attitude and a proactive approach to contributing to a high-performing team.
