Hillside Gardens Group is a family-owned agricultural business with farming and manufacturing operations in Ontario, Canada, and Georgia, USA. We grow, harvest, pack, and distribute a wide variety of fresh vegetables, including cauliflower, celery, onions, carrots, and beets, serving customers across North America.
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Intermediate Accountant to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing the full accounting cycle, preparing timely financial reports, leading the year-end close process, and coordinating with external accountants to support the preparation of financial statements and tax filings. The successful candidate will also contribute to budgeting, process improvements, and ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.
Duties
- Manage the full accounting cycle, including Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), invoicing, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
- Manage AR by preparing invoices, monitoring collections, maintaining supporting documentation, reconciling customer accounts, and analyzing aging reports to improve collection performance.
- Manage AP by verifying vendor invoices, processing payments (ACH and cheque), and maintaining accurate supplier records.
- Perform monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, AR, AP, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts (e.g. intercompany transactions).
- Prepare journal entries, including accruals, depreciation, intercompany transactions, investments, and other month-end adjustments.
- Maintain accurate financial records and prepare timely financial reports for management.
- Maintain the fixed asset register and continuity schedule.
- Manage year-end close, prepare all supporting working papers and liaise with external accountants for financial statements and tax filings.
- Assist with budgeting, financial tracking, and variance analysis.
- Monitor operating licences and ensure timely renewals and regulatory filings.
- Prepare and maintain land lease agreements and related tracking spreadsheets.
- Maintain insurance schedules by adding or removing insured assets as required.
- Provide general administrative support to management and other departments as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting.
- 2–3 years of accounting experience in a full-cycle accounting role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online; experience with an ERP system is preferred (Sage X3 is considered an asset).
- Experience in the agriculture or manufacturing industry is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
- Continuous improvement mindset and willingness to streamline processes.
- This is a full-time, on-site position; remote work is not available.

Pay: $65,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
