JOB PURPOSE
The Finance & Fleet Manager plays a critical, cross-functional role combining strategic financial planning and analysis (FP&A) with the comprehensive management of the company’s equipment fleet. This position is responsible for driving profitability and operational excellence by managing the equipment lifecycle, including acquisition, maintenance coordination, and disposition, while owning the financial models, accounting oversight, and data analytics that support these assets.
Acting as a key partner to the Operations and Finance teams, this role ensures the fleet is financially optimized, well-matched to market demand, and backed by strong, collaborative vendor relationships.
The role is suited to a CPA who has a strong interest in company operations. Experience with a company that has large fleets of vehicles, vehicle servicing or other equipment rentals is highly preferred. Great opportunity to use your analytical skills and support operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Planning, Analysis (FP&A) & Accounting
- Financial Modeling & Analysis: Utilize advanced Excel capabilities to build and maintain complex financial models for asset utilization, cash flow forecasting, and fleet ROI.
- Accounting Oversight: Ensure high-grade accuracy in fleet-related accounting, depreciation schedules, capex tracking, and financial reporting.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Partner with operations and leadership to develop annual budgets, multi-year financial forecasts, and variance analyses.
- Data Analytics & Business Intelligence: Leverage ERP systems and business intelligence tools (such as Power BI) to build dashboards that improve fleet reporting, data quality, and cost-visibility
Fleet Planning & Equipment Strategy
- Work alongside operations managers to develop and execute annual and multi-year fleet plans aligned with branch needs and market demand.
- Evaluate and recommend equipment makes and models based on purchase price, safety, utilization, and resale value.
- Maintain an appropriate mix of new and used equipment.
- Work with operations to establish equipment replacement guidelines based on age, hours, condition, and repair history.
- Maintain a list of fleet for sale based on fleet age and other criteria
- Track key fleet performance indicators such as utilization, availability, maintenance cost, and fleet age.
- Ensure accurate fleet data in ERP and fleet management systems.
- Support improvements in fleet reporting, data quality, and visibility.
Supplier, OEM & Used Equipment Management
- Work alongside operations to form relationships with OEMs, dealers, and suppliers.
- Negotiate purchasing programs, pricing, warranty coverage, parts availability, and support terms.
- Monitor supplier performance and manage equipment concentration risk.
- Lead sourcing and evaluation of used equipment, including refurbishment and acquisition approval criteria.
- Manage equipment disposition, including timing, channels, and coordination with resale partners.
Cross-Functional Support
- Support Sales and Marketing with fleet capabilities, equipment information, and new product introductions.
- Liaise with operations managers to optimize fleet utilization through strategically buying and selling equipment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- CPA Designation
- 7+ years of experience in accounting with inventory / capital assets management experience. Fleet management, sourcing, or equipment category management.
- Equipment rental industry experience preferred.
- Hands-on experience with equipment acquisition, maintenance planning, and disposition.
- Comfortable working across multiple branches and functions.
