The Auxiliary Unit has been in operation since 1989. Auxiliary Officers receive more than 100 hours of training, including legal training in powers of arrest, ethics, traffic direction and use of force training.
About the Role – How you will Contribute to the Service:
The Halton Regional Police Services (HRPS) Community Services Team is currently looking for Volunteer Auxiliary Officers (2-year Commitment) to join our team and feel the pride of making a difference by putting the Halton Community first!
This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to volunteer in their community while gaining valuable insight into policing. Our Auxiliary Officers come from diverse backgrounds and share a common passion for helping others and making a positive difference in the community.
As an Auxiliary Officer, you will work alongside sworn police officers and provide support at a variety of community events across the Region, including fall fairs, parades, and summer festivals such as the Burlington Sound of Music Festival.
You will also have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of community policing programs, including Neighbourhood Watch, Bicycle Safety, R.I.D.E., crime prevention initiatives, and the distribution of educational materials. Duties may also include assisting with crime scene security to preserve evidence, searching for missing persons, supporting crowd, traffic, and parade control, and participating in operational ride-along.

What is required for this role…. Your Devoted Commitment:
- We ask volunteers to commit to two (2) years of volunteer service with Halton Regional Police Service. Full training will be provided.
- Volunteers must commit to a flexible schedule totaling 144 hours per calendar year.
- Willing to serve anywhere at anytime throughout the Region of Halton which includes Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Georgetown, Acton and Halton Hills)
Minimum Qualifications: To be considered for this volunteer position, you must:
- Be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Have successfully completed a high school diploma or equivalent
- Not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been fully granted
- Do you possess a valid Ontario driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record?
- Be physically able to perform the duties of an Auxiliary Officer
- Be of good moral character
- Be prepared to take an Oath/Affirmation of Office and Secrecy
- If selected, cannot be employed as a security officer within Halton Region
- Not be the holder of a private investigators license in the province of Ontario
- The ability to speak a second language would be an asset.
- Hold a valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification or be willing to obtain the certification no later than January 16, 2027.
- Note: The successful applicant will be required to successfully complete a background screening process to the satisfaction of the Service. This process may include reference checks with previous employers, verification of educational qualifications, and criminal record and credit checks, as applicable to the position.
The Selection Process and Projected Timelines:
Step 1: Apply Online: August 31, 2026, to October 12, 2026. All applicants are required to complete and submit the following as part of their application: an online questionnaire, a written submission, and a resume. Once your application has been successfully submitted, you will receive a confirmation email acknowledging receipt.
**Written Submission Required**: Along with your resume, please submit a written statement of no more than one page. In your own words, A) please tell us about yourself, why you are interested in becoming an Auxiliary Officer with the Halton Regional Police Service, and what you believe you could contribute to the role. B) Please include at least one specific example from your personal, volunteer, educational, or work experience that demonstrates why this opportunity is meaningful to you and how that experience would help you contribute as an Auxiliary Officer.
Step 2: Resume Screening: October 13, 2026, to October 22, 2026
Step 3: Online Assessment: October 23, 2026 to October 26, 2026. Selected applicants will be invited to complete an assessment through our service provider, TestGenius. The exercise will include spelling, language, and reading comprehension tasks and will take no more than 45 minutes to complete.
Step 4: Behavioural Interviews: Selected applicants will be invited to in-person interviews Week of November 9, 2026 to November 22, 2026.
Step 5: Fitness Assessment (PREP): Tentative Test Date(s): December 8 & December 15, 2026 (evening)

Step 6: Pre-employment checks: December 18, 2026 to week of January 18, 2027. Pre-employment checks will be conducted for shortlisted candidates and will include a Psychological Assessment, Security/Credit Check, Professional References, and any additional employment verifications relevant to the specific job requirements.
Step 7: Decision Making: Week of January 18, 2027. All applicants will be notified of their applicant status via email.
Step 8: Training: Commences February 27, 2027 (training will be scheduled in the evening, weekends)
