Overview
ASI Tech Ltd. is seeking an experienced and motivated Fiber & Underground Utilities Foreman to lead field crews on underground fiber optic, communication, and electrical infrastructure projects throughout Alberta.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising day-to-day field operations, coordinating crews and subcontractors, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to specification, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and productivity.
Position Summary
The Foreman is responsible for overseeing all aspects of underground utility construction projects, including civil excavation, conduit installation, cable placement, vault installations, transformer civil work, fiber optic construction, and restoration. The Foreman acts as the primary field representative for ASI Tech Ltd., ensuring work is completed according to project drawings, schedules, and client requirements.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead crews performing underground utility, fiber optic, and electrical civil construction.
- Coordinate daily work activities with the Project Manager and Operations team.
- Interpret IFC drawings, utility plans, locates, and construction specifications.
- Plan daily work assignments, manpower, equipment, and material requirements.
- Oversee excavation, trenching, conduit installation, cable placement, duct banks, vaults, and handhole installations.
- Coordinate transformer pad installations and transformer replacements (civil scope only).
- Ensure all work complies with project specifications, municipal standards, and client requirements.
- Monitor productivity, quality, and project schedules.
- Conduct daily tailgate meetings and ensure all safety procedures are followed.
- Complete daily reports, production tracking, and timesheet approvals.
- Coordinate inspections with clients and utility representatives.
- Identify and resolve field issues while minimizing project delays.
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure quality workmanship.
- Maintain positive relationships with clients, inspectors, suppliers, and the public.
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and teamwork.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in underground utility or fiber optic construction.
- Previous experience as a Foreman or Lead Hand.
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic infrastructure, underground electrical civil construction, and communication networks.
- Experience with conduit systems, duct banks, vaults, cable placement, and restoration.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, utility locates, and project specifications.
- Experience coordinating multiple crews and subcontractors.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with daily reporting, project documentation, and production tracking.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License (Class 3 is considered an asset).
- CSTS, Ground Disturbance Level II, Standard First Aid, WHMIS, and Leadership for Safety Excellence are considered strong assets.
