Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and organized Mechanic Shop Manager to oversee daily operations of our automotive repair shop. The ideal candidate will streamline shop processes, improve workflow efficiency, coordinate staff schedules, manage inventory, ensure high-quality repairs, and provide excellent customer service. This role is responsible for maintaining a productive, safe, and profitable shop environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesShop Operations & Organization
- Develop and implement efficient shop workflows and operating procedures.
- Schedule and prioritize repair jobs to maximize technician productivity.
- Monitor work orders and ensure timely completion of repairs.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work environment.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements to increase efficiency.
Team Leadership
- Supervise mechanics, technicians, service advisors, and support staff.
- Assign work based on technician skill levels and workload.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching and training.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and a positive work culture.
Customer Service
- Communicate with customers regarding repair estimates, timelines, and service recommendations.
- Resolve customer concerns and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism and service quality.
Inventory & Parts Management
- Monitor inventory levels and order parts, tools, and shop supplies.
- Establish inventory control systems to reduce shortages and overstocking.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of parts.
Financial Management
- Track shop productivity, labor efficiency, and profitability.
- Review estimates, invoices, and repair orders for accuracy.
- Manage shop expenses and assist with budgeting.
- Generate operational reports and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
Quality Control
- Ensure repairs meet company standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct final inspections and quality checks when necessary.
- Monitor compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
Technology & Reporting
- Utilize shop management software to track work orders, labor hours, inventory, and customer information.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare operational performance reports.
- Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement improvements.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of automotive repair shop management or supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of automotive repair procedures and shop operations.
- Experience with shop management software and inventory systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications.
- Business management or automotive technology training.
- Experience implementing workflow improvement and process optimization initiatives.
