About the Opportunity
Our client, a distribution company in North York, is seeking a hands-on Finance Manager to join their leadership team and work directly alongside the CFO, President, and senior management team.
This is not a traditional desk-based accounting role. We're looking for an operational finance professional who enjoys getting into the business, building relationships across multiple locations, identifying process improvements, and driving meaningful change.
You'll act as a key connection between Head Office and our branch network across Canada and the United States, helping standardize processes, strengthen controls, improve communication, and identify opportunities for automation and operational excellence.
If you're a CPA who enjoys solving problems, improving systems, and partnering with operations leaders, we'd like to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
- Serve as the primary finance liaison between Head Office and branch operations.
- Travel regularly to branch locations throughout Canada and the United States to review financial processes, controls, and operational effectiveness.
- Build strong working relationships with branch managers, controllers, and operational leaders.
- Evaluate existing procedures and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, compliance, and consistency across locations.
- Support branches with financial guidance, problem-solving, and process implementation.
Process Improvement & Automation
- Identify opportunities to streamline finance and accounting processes through automation and technology.
- Lead initiatives focused on improving data quality, reducing manual work, and increasing productivity.
- Develop and implement standardized finance procedures and best practices across the organization.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors on process improvement projects and system enhancements.
- Support future acquisitions, integrations, and strategic finance initiatives.
Finance Operations
- Oversee treasury and cash management activities, including cash flow forecasting and banking relationships.
- Monitor working capital performance, including receivables, payables, and inventory trends.
- Review accounts payable processes and ensure timely, accurate vendor payments.
- Assist with corporate financing activities, insurance administration, lease management, and other finance-related responsibilities.
- Support the overall financial health and operational effectiveness of the organization.
Leadership & Executive Support
- Work closely with the CFO, President, and executive team on strategic priorities.
- Prepare financial analyses, presentations, and operational reports for senior leadership.
- Present findings from branch reviews, highlighting risks, opportunities, and actionable recommendations.
- Coach and support finance team members while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
- CPA designation or actively pursuing completion.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or operational finance leadership.
- Experience working within multi-location organizations.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, treasury, cash management, accounts payable, and working capital.
- Demonstrated success implementing process improvements, automation initiatives, or system enhancements.
- Strong ERP experience
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable interacting with executives, branch managers, and frontline employees.
- Willingness to travel regularly to branch locations throughout Canada and the United States.
What Will Make You Successful
- You are naturally curious and enjoy understanding how businesses operate.
- You are confident, approachable, and communicate clearly at all levels.
- You enjoy being visible within the business rather than working exclusively behind a desk.
- You challenge the status quo and continuously look for ways to improve processes and performance.
- You lead through action, accountability, and collaboration.
