Title: Heavy Haul Lowboy/Winch Truck Operator
Description: Thompson Construction Group is currently looking for a Heavy Haul Lowboy/Winch Truck Operator responsible for operating a truck & trailer for the transportation of construction equipment and materials in our Fort McMurray area of operations.
Responsibilities:
· Operating tractor and lowboy equipment trailers, moving equipment and materials between various projects in Ft McMurray and surrounding area
· Deliver equipment and other material as determined by the Supervisor
· Safely load and unload equipment and secure loads for transportation as required.
· Perform daily preventative maintenance inspections and safety checks to proactively identify any potential mechanical issues and advise the Supervisor.
· Always keep truck in a clean and professional condition
· Complete accurate daily pre-inspections and post-inspections regulatory logs, Field Level Hazard Assessment sheets for all worksites, transportation timesheets and submit to the Supervisor
· Behave in a manner that ensures the safety of themselves, their co-workers and others on the work sites
· Attend and participate in toolbox and safety meetings as scheduled
· Report unsafe work, unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries and near misses to supervisor and participate in the investigative process
· Comply with established company and client policies and procedures and Occupational Health and Safety regulations
· Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when and where required.
· Assist other employees when required
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 2 years of experience hauling and moving heavy equipment.
· Valid Class 1 driver’s license with an air brake endorsement (candidates must provide a current commercial driver’s abstract).
· Proficient in operating standard transmission (18 Speed).
· Ability to identify and describe mechanical issues on the truck/trailer.
· Strong working knowledge of various types of heavy equipment.
· Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, proven reliability, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting and team coordination.
· Strong problem solving and decision-making capabilities.
· Proven ability to collaborate effectively as part of a larger operational team.
· Willingness to work in the Ft McMurray area and live in remote camps, working a rotational schedule.
· CSTS/OSSA or BSO Certification, or ESC CSO certification.
· Must be in good health and physical condition to safely perform all assigned manual duties.
· Ability to pass a mandatory pre-access drug and alcohol test.
· Candidates must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, the Spruce Grove area for the TIL season (summer months). Please note that accommodation is not provided during this portion of the work season.
· Candidates must be comfortable working a seasonal transition between locations. During the winter months, work will be based in Fort McMurray, where employees will stay in camp accommodations while working their rotational schedule.
