ICYA’s Community Ministers focus on a ministry of presence and intentional friendship, providing relationship-based support and spiritual care with people in the North End community. They communicate the gospel of Jesus through both words and actions as they come near and walk in relationship with people in the community, leading people to a meaningful and hope-filled understanding of the gospel and to restoration in relationships with God, self, others, and the community around them.
Ministry Responsibilities
- Outreach for the purpose of seeking and building relationships with people in the community.
- Tangible care, advocacy and support with individuals that demonstrates the love of Christ. (i.e. advocacy in legal issues, recreational connections, counsel in relational difficulties etc.)
- Intentional mentorship with individuals and/or small groups in the community for the purpose of evangelism, spiritual care and discipleship.
- Create and lead small groups or other programming for fellowship and growth relevant to the needs of community members (eg. Bible study, Alpha, Recovery, etc.)
- Use a holistic approach that holds in balance the meeting of practical and social needs, providing spiritual care, and sharing of the message of Jesus.
- Equip, encourage, and empower local leaders.
- Work in collaboration with the Community Ministry team and with other ICYA programs.
- Participate in staff meetings, training and other events and activities that require staff involvement (such as the Community Block Party, Gala, etc.)
- Tracking progress and providing updates on ministry goals and activities.
- Tracking interactions and group events using ICYA tracking systems (Dex).
- Flexibility is essential, as this role may require adapting to new tasks and responsibilities beyond the standard responsibilities.
Family Support Position Responsibilities:
- Focus on building relationships and supporting families who are connected to existing ICYA programming. These families will comprise the primary caseload for the Community Minister in the family support role.
- Create programming that engages these families, building community and spiritual support.
Qualifications
- A deep and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, Christlike character and commitment to living out a Christ-centered life in alignment with ICYA’s mission and core values.
- A high school diploma and completed or partial post-secondary education, or relevant education and experience.
- Proven ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, and colleagues, demonstrating the love and compassion of Christ.
- Experience working as part of a team, especially in ministry or non-profit settings, and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Understanding of Indigenous culture as well as colonization and its generational impacts, with sensitivity to how the gospel brings reconciliation and healing.
- Experience working with youth and families and/or other ministry experience; experience serving in the inner city or marginalized communities.
- A Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

- Good foundation of biblical knowledge.
- Strong organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in using common office tools, including Microsoft Office Suite, and maintaining accurate records.
- Demonstrated ability to be a good and cautious driver, ensuring the safety and well-being of passengers.
- Committed to a healthy and sustainable lifestyle that honors God and sets a positive example for others.
- Ability to maintain the highest level of professionalism and discretion, respecting the dignity and privacy of those served.
- Willing to sign and uphold ICYA's Statement of Faith, Core Values and Lifestyle & Morality Standards as a testimony of faith.
- Prepare and distribute quarterly ministry and prayer updates to friends and family, encouraging prayer, engagement, and support for ICYA’s work.
- Support ICYA’s collaborative fundraising approach (Unity Fund) by participating in shared ministry fundraising efforts.
