The Opportunity
OCTS is looking for a Maintenance Shop Labourer to join our team in Acheson.
This is a hands-on position with a strong focus on shipping container repairs and general shop work. The successful candidate will use a variety of hand and power tools to complete basic repairs, assist with maintaining equipment and work areas, and support the day-to-day operation of our maintenance shop and yard.
This position would be a good fit for someone who is mechanically inclined, enjoys hands-on work and is comfortable working independently once trained.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic repairs on shipping containers.
- Remove and replace damaged wood floor sheets.
- Drill, fasten and secure replacement flooring.
- Perform minor MIG welding, including patching damaged metal container walls.
- Repair and resecure container door seals and related hardware.
- Perform minor electrical repairs, including replacing or repairing lights where appropriate.
- Check tire pressures and assist with other basic equipment-related tasks.
- Remove and replace decals and markings.
- Safely operate drills, grinders, saws, impact tools and other hand and power tools.
- Move vehicles, containers or equipment within the yard when required and qualified.
- Assist with general shop and maintenance activities as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area.
- Follow all OCTS safety policies, procedures and safe work practices.
- Identify repair or equipment concerns and report them to the appropriate supervisor.
- Complete assigned work independently with minimal supervision once trained.
- Perform other duties as required to support shop and yard operations.
Qualifications
- Mechanically inclined and comfortable working with hand and power tools.
- Previous experience in a shop, construction, maintenance, fabrication, automotive or industrial environment is an asset.
- Basic MIG welding experience is an asset.
- Experience completing basic repairs or working with metal and wood is an asset.
- Willingness and ability to learn container repair techniques.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in an industrial and outdoor environment.
- Strong reliability and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to working safely.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driving abstract.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is dependable, mechanically inclined and willing to learn. You don't need to be a licensed mechanic or technician, but you should be comfortable working with tools and performing hands-on repair work.
Wage: $21.00–$23.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Pay: $21.00-$23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
