The Role
Our client’s Data & Analytics team is building the data backbone of the business: an enterprise data warehouse and data lake consolidating raw data from multiple source systems into a single, reliable reporting environment. We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer with deep SQL Server and SSIS expertise to lead that effort — designing, building, and owning the ETL pipelines, dimensional models, and database environments that everything downstream depends on.
This is a hands-on senior engineering seat: you will write the pipelines, tune the queries, and shape the architecture — and work directly with business stakeholders to turn requirements into datasets that reporting tools like Power BI can trust.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), ingesting and transforming data from multiple source systems.
- Develop complex SQL, stored procedures, and scripts; own query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning on large datasets.
- Design and implement data warehouse solutions on SQL Server — dimensional models, fact and dimension tables, star schemas — and support the evolution toward an enterprise data lake.
- Build reliability in: validation, error handling, logging, and monitoring, so data lands accurately and on time in downstream systems.
- Support data governance: access controls, security, documentation, lineage, and auditability.
- Partner with business stakeholders and analysts to translate requirements into technical solutions; participate in planning and estimation.
- Manage code through Git and keep technical documentation current; push the tooling and frameworks forward.
What You Bring
- 7+ years in data engineering, ETL development, or data warehouse development.
- Strong SQL Server expertise, including advanced SQL development, stored procedures, and performance tuning — this and SSIS are the core requirements.
- Hands-on SSIS pipeline development experience and a deep understanding of ETL/ELT architecture.
- Solid dimensional modeling: you have designed and maintained fact/dimension structures that analysts actually use.
- Experience with query optimization, indexing, partitioning, and large-scale data processing.
- Working knowledge of data quality, governance, and security principles; Git fluency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Assets: cloud exposure (Azure/AWS), Azure Data Factory or Databricks, Power BI or SSRS, manufacturing/supply chain/logistics environments, French language skills.
Additional Information
- Compensation: $93,000 – $117,000 CAD annually, plus comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits, retirement savings, and education assistance.
