Landscape Labourers & Techs are a very important part of our crews. They are the support team to our lead hands and foreman. They are the key to getting the task done efficiently and efficiently.
Typically given duties and tasks that may require strength, agility, stamina/grit, basic skills & certifications. The basics - show up onetime, put in an honest days effort, be open to honing and learning new skills, and hopefully a desire to take on more responsibility.
Ideal labourer position candidates understand how construction sites function with a clear understanding of health and safety rules, work site hierarchy, security, company rules and activities. Much of this will be reviewed in orientations and onsite training. Labourers who excel will be able to follow directions, work efficiently with minimal oversight, and always be being safety conscious.
Landscape Technicians are labourers with a higher skill levels and a strong knowledge of landscape systems and work practice. They have good soil, plant and tool knowledge. They have multiple years of experience, hold multiple certifications in the field, strong health and safety training, can take tasks from start to finish and are working towards being a lead hand or foreman.
RESPONSIBILITIES COULD INCLUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO):
- Provide labour support as needed for crews.
- Help assess safety hazards and issues onsite.
- Perform setup and cleanup tasks at job site.
- Operate basic hand, power tool and small machinery.
- Support tradesman and technicians in more complicated and detailed tasks.
- Work with operators around machines – understanding the role of a spotter and how to assist and direct machines safely.
- Help direct traffic when necessary to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists and work crew.
- Dig pits, trenches and grading in preparation for job site construction.
- Move materials & lift heavy loads up to 70 lbs while navigating construction job site terrain.
- Climb to heights and conduct work with proper safety restraints.
- Planting and sodding.
- Hardscape works, laying / moving pavers, retaining wall, aggregates and compaction.
- Basic irrigation & drainage works, cutting and measuring pipe, connecting pipe and parts.
- Maintenance tasks, mowing, pruning and weeding.
- Back-fill trenches and pits, when necessary, able to grade and level aggregate and soil areas.
PREFERANCE TO:
- High school diploma/GED (preferred)
- 1+ years’ construction industry experience (preferred)
- Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures
- Comfort working in high-stress environment with extreme weather fluctuations.
- Driver’s License
- First-Aid Level 1
- Fall Protection Level 1
- WHIMIS
- Skid steer and mini-excavator experience 1 year - Certifications Preferred.
