Job Summary
TAA Construction Inc. is seeking an experienced and reliable Heavy Equipment Operator to join our growing civil construction team. Our work spans municipal and environmental projects across Ontario, with a strong focus in Chatham‑Kent, Dresden, Port Perry, Caledon, and surrounding regions.
We specialize in road reconstruction, temporary road closures, river and creek stabilization, water and sewer main installations, culvert replacements, and general earthworks. We are looking for a mature, safety‑driven operator who takes pride in their workmanship, respects equipment, and understands that quality starts with attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment including excavators (8‑tonne to 30‑tonne), skid steers, loaders, dozers, and other civil construction machinery.
- Complete daily pre‑start inspections and equipment checklists accurately.
- Monitor machine performance and report maintenance or mechanical issues immediately.
- Read and interpret site plans, grades, elevations, and municipal servicing drawings.
- Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, culvert installation, and riverbank stabilization tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Work closely with supervisors and labourers to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to TAA’s quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, especially in active road closure environments.
- Care for company equipment and ensure machines are cleaned and secured at the end of each shift.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of heavy equipment operating experience in civil construction, site servicing, or municipal infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of safe operating practices and Ontario construction safety requirements.
- Experience with GPS machine control is an asset.
- Ability to complete daily inspections and maintenance checklists thoroughly.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong work ethic with excellent attention to detail.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and reliable transportation to various job sites across the province.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of heavy equipment mechanics and ability to identify potential issues early.
- Experience performing basic maintenance (greasing, fluid checks, track adjustments, routine servicing).
- Ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues in the field.
- Experience working around underground utilities, water/sewer mains, culverts, and environmentally sensitive areas.
