With strong presence in the utility sector, Chimax is expanding its electrical engineering services for transmission division.
The Opportunity
The Electrical Engineering Technologist will be a core technical contributor within Chimax’s Electrical Engineering Division, taking ownership of protection and control (P&C) design packages and working as part of a collaborative team of engineers, technologists, and designers. This role is well-suited to a technically capable individual who takes pride in accurate, well-organized design work and is eager to develop their skills within a growing and supportive engineering practice.
Responsibilities
- Develop AutoCAD Electrical and SDS P&C drawing packages, including single line diagrams, schematic and three-line diagrams, connection and wiring diagrams, and cable schedules; support drawing set-up and the development of standard templates.
- Perform raceway fill calculations, cable tray loading calculations, cable selection and sizing, and other relevant technical calculations.
- Develop communications and SCADA architecture schemes, including points lists, RTU configurations, and HMI configuration files.
- Support electrical system studies including grounding, cable ampacity, load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and relay coordination using established engineering software platforms.
- Develop and verify protection relay setting files.
- Conduct site visits to collect field data, interface with clients, and provide technical support during the construction phase of projects.
- Adhere to all Chimax workplace policies, standards, and safe work practices.
- Take on additional responsibilities as the division grows and project needs evolve.
Qualification
- A minimum of 4 years of hands-on substation P&C design experience: ; junior candidates with relevant training or academic backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply — mentorship and structured development will be provided.
- Associate or full membership with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is preferred; candidates without certification who demonstrate equivalent competency will be considered.
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards including CSA and IEEE
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and SDS P&C.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical documentation and interfacing with clients or site personnel.
- Experience in the electrical utility or industrial sector is a strong asset; candidates with transferable skills from adjacent industries are welcome to apply.
- A detail-oriented, self-directed work ethic with the ability to manage deliverables with a high degree of independence.
Pay: $70,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
