OVERVIEW
The Maintenance Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating the Company’s maintenance function to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment used in the production facility. Reporting to the Production Manager, this position provides day-to-day functional leadership to maintenance personnel, oversees preventive maintenance execution, directs response to emergency breakdowns, and ensures maintenance projects are identified, planned, and completed from initiation through close-out.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Planning, Preventive Maintenance & Breakdown Response (30%)
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Perform and coordinate routine inspections, condition monitoring, and maintenance activities on production equipment.
- Lead emergency breakdown response by troubleshooting equipment failures, identifying root causes, and implementing timely corrective actions.
- Communicate repair status and coordinate maintenance activities with production to minimize operational disruption.
2. Maintenance Leadership, Compliance & Maintenance Controls (30%)
- Provide day-to-day leadership, direction, and technical support to maintenance personnel.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance with Company policies, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), PPE requirements, and applicable safety legislation.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure effective use of the Company's CMMS.
- Manage maintenance inventory, critical spare parts, and maintenance documentation to support operational reliability.
3. Project Execution, Upgrades & Continuous Improvement (25%)
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee maintenance projects, equipment upgrades, and contractor activities from initiation through completion.
- Analyze recurring equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment performance, maintenance processes, and operational efficiency.
4. Equipment Installation, Integration & Calibration Oversight (15%)
- Oversee the installation, commissioning, and integration of new production equipment and machinery.
- Coordinate equipment startup, testing, and contractor activities to ensure successful implementation.
- Ensure equipment calibration, alignment, and performance verification activities are completed and documented to maintain operational and quality standards.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Journeyperson Millwright (Industrial Mechanic) certification preferred; equivalent combination of education and directly related experience will be considered.
- Valid safety training/certifications (or willingness to obtain promptly), including LOTO, WHMIS, and applicable lift/fall protection training as required by site operations.
- 5–7+ years industrial/manufacturing maintenance experience; prior lead-hand/team-lead experience preferred; vendor/contractor coordination experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting/repair capability across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems; able to read schematics/manuals; PLC/automation and welding/fabrication are assets.
- CMMS proficiency (work orders, PM scheduling, history/documentation) and strong communication/documentation skills.
