Position Summary:
The Canadian Mental Health Association, Hamilton Branch, is seeking an individual for the position of Therapeutic Recreationist for their Evening Social Recreation Rehabilitation Program (ESRRP). This program provides structure, supervision, and a degree of flexibility allowing participants an opportunity to develop their own activities. Staff will be responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of social/recreation rehabilitation programs. The goal of the program is to promote mental health and a healthy lifestyle in participants. Individuals attending ESRRP include those with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and special needs. Expected hours are up to 5 hours a week, Monday to Friday Evenings, with the possibility of increased hours for coverage.
Qualifications:
Candidates must have a college diploma in recreation and be registered in the Therapeutic Recreation Ontario association, or a social work/social service work diploma/degree and be registered or eligible for registration in a professional college, or a Peer Support Worker with successful completion of a recognized Peer Support Training Certification that includes 50 hours of practicum. Experience in the mental health and/or addictions is an asset. Experience working with other special needs populations would be a definite asset. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills and be able to engage program participants. The successful candidate will be skilled in the areas of social, recreation, and rehabilitation programming. Experience working with other special needs populations is an asset. A valid driver’s license and or access to a reliable vehicle is required. The ability to provide French-Language services is an asset.

Pay: $21.77 per hour
