Job Overview
North Coast Excavation and Trucking Ltd. is seeking a reliable and hardworking General Labourer to join our excavation and construction team. The successful candidate will assist with residential and commercial excavation projects, including house foundation excavation, underground utility installation, quick trench connections, site preparation, and general construction support. This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist excavator operators and equipment operators with excavation and construction activities.
- Perform hand digging, trench cleaning, and grade checking as directed by supervisors.
- Assist with house foundation excavation projects and underground utility installations.
- Support quick trench connections for water, sewer, storm, gas, electrical, and communication services.
- Load, unload, move, and organize construction materials, pipes, fittings, tools, and equipment.
- Pick up and deliver pipes, fittings, materials, and supplies from vendors and suppliers as required.
- Assist with backfilling, compaction, grading, and site cleanup activities.
- Install and remove construction signs, barricades, and safety equipment.
- Direct traffic and assist with maintaining safe work zones when required.
- Clean, maintain, and organize tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Follow all company safety policies, site-specific safety procedures, and occupational health and safety regulations.
- Report hazards, incidents, equipment issues, or unsafe conditions to supervisors immediately.
- Assist with additional site duties as assigned to support project completion.
Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to perform physically demanding labour in outdoor environments and various weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy materials and equipment safely.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe excavation practices.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a team environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn.
- Valid driver's license is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in excavation, underground utility construction, landscaping, road construction, or general construction labour is an asset but not required.
- Familiarity with construction tools and equipment is considered an asset.
