Job Summary
The trades coordinator supports the successful participation, retention, and completion of students and community members in trades training programs. This role provides coordination, guidance, and hands-on support across apprenticeship, dual-credit, and community-based training initiatives.
The coordinator is primarily responsible for coordinating and delivering trades training programs, including summer workshops, skills-based training, and community-based trades initiatives. The role includes establishing program standards, structures, and delivery requirements in alignment with funding criteria and reporting expectations.
The coordinator works closely with students, instructors, families, and community partners to identify barriers, support engagement, and ensure access to culturally relevant and practical learning opportunities. The coordinator uses a student-centred and culturally responsive approach, strongly focusing on supporting Fort Nelson First Nation learners and improving overall student success outcomes.
Duties
- Lead the planning and coordination of trades training programs, including summer workshops, skills-based training, and community-based initiatives.
- Develop program schedules, training plans, and delivery structures based on community needs and available resources.
- Coordinate dual-credit, apprenticeship, and work-experience opportunities for students.
- Building relationships and contacting employers to identify apprenticeship and job opportunities for participants.
- Support student participation in trades programs by monitoring attendance, engagement, and progress.
- Identify barriers to participation and coordinate support strategies with students and families.
- Coordinate and support hands-on training sessions in the Trades Shop.· Maintain inventory, tools, and equipment, ensuring safe and organised operations.
- Maintain accurate records of participant progress, program outcomes, attendance, and expenditures.
- Prepare regular internal reports for the Director of Education.
Requirements Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experiences in trades programs, education coordination, or a related field.
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field (e.g., trades, education, administration).
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or within First Nations education systems is an asset.
- Knowledge of trades pathways, apprenticeships, and community training programs.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and coordination skills.
- Ability to work in a hands-on training environment.
Employment Requirements
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector)
- TB Test clearance
- Valid driver’s license class 5
