This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 7 July 2026 and closing at 11:59 pm on 14 July 2026.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working as part of the Child, Youth and Family Program, the successful candidate will work as a part of the Youth Crisis Intervention Team (YCIT). The CYC will work primarily in the emergency department in a consult role, assessing youth, up to transitional age (25 years old), who present to the emergency department with a mental health and/or addictions related issue. As a Youth Crisis staff, the CYC is responsible for completing a trauma-informed crisis assessment including (but not limited to); stressors, risks, signs and symptoms of illness, functioning, strengths and supports, to formulate, in collaboration with the patient, family and physician, a disposition and recommendations for care. This may include safety planning, collaboration with community supports, or referrals. When an inpatient admission is recommended, the CYC will collaborate with the inpatient team to coordinate admission, including transfer of accountability. CYCs working on the YCIT may also have coverage responsibilities on the Child & Adolescent Inpatient Program (CAIP) and will be oriented to both care areas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College diploma/university degree in child and youth work is required
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in a hospital setting or with adolescents experiencing mental health crisis is required.
- Proven experience working within a brief acute care model preferably within a hospital setting;
- Demonstrated knowledge of health care facilities, community support systems and social service agencies;
- Demonstrated effective organizational, prioritization and problem-solving abilities;
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to foster good public relations and effective working relationships in a family centered environment;
- Working knowledge of French or other languages is an asset;
- Must have satisfactory performance record;
