Lakeside EMS Inc. is the dedicated ambulance service provider for the O’Chiese and Sunchild First Nations, providing 24/7 Advanced Life Support (ALS) emergency ambulance coverage to these two communities northwest of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta.
Since 2008, Lakeside EMS has proudly served communities in Central Alberta. We are a small, close-knit service where our paramedics are trusted to do their jobs, supported by their managers and coworkers, and provided with the equipment and training they need to deliver excellent patient care.
Our work on O’Chiese and Sunchild First Nations is different from many traditional EMS environments. Our crews work primarily in rural and remote settings, often with extended transport times and complex calls. Building trust and relationships within the communities we serve is an important part of what we do.
We are currently seeking Advanced Care Paramedics (ACPs) for Full-Time and Part-Time positions.
Our ideal candidates are self-motivated, adaptable and strong communicators with sound clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills. Just as importantly, we are looking for individuals with a genuine desire to make a difference and a willingness to learn through immersion in the unique environment of serving First Nations communities.
Full-Time Rotation
Our full-time paramedics work a 3 days on / 6 days off rotation.
- Shift change takes place at 10:00 a.m. on O’Chiese First Nation.
- Accommodations are provided at our station while on shift.
- Transportation to and from Rocky Mountain House is provided via our crew change-out truck.
- Full-Time ACP rate starts at $650 per day, with the potential to increase based on experience and qualifications.
Part-Time Opportunities
Part-time positions are also available for ACPs who want to become part of the Lakeside team without committing to a full-time rotation.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Registered and in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics as an Advanced Care Paramedic.
- Ability to manage complex 911 calls effectively in unique situations, rural and remote locations, and with extended transport times.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical-thinking and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small EMS team.
- A genuine desire to make a difference and to learn through immersion in a First Nations community setting.
- Relatively clean driving history and ability to meet insurance and ambulance operator requirements.
- Ability to commute to Rocky Mountain House.
Duties
- Provide emergency medical care and transport in accordance with current provincial Medical Control Protocols, policies and standards.
- Respond primarily to 911 emergency calls within O’Chiese and Sunchild First Nations.
- Complete required patient care documentation and operational responsibilities.
- Perform routine station, equipment and ambulance checks and maintenance.
- Maintain all required licensing, education and continuing competency requirements.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development.

The Community Fit Experience
As part of our hiring process, shortlisted candidates will participate in a 3–5 hour Community Fit Experience at Lakeside EMS.
This is more than a traditional interview. You’ll spend time with our crews, see our station and experience the First Nations communities we serve. It gives you the opportunity to get a realistic sense of what working at Lakeside is actually like — and gives us the opportunity to get to know you.
We’ll be looking for clinical confidence and professionalism, but equally important are cultural respect and awareness, communication, openness and a willingness to learn through immersion in a First Nations EMS setting.
