About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate PSW to support a woman currently residing at Villa Santa Maria long-term care facility in the Steels and Martin Grove area (Woodbridge). She is mobile with a walker but requires encouragement and assistance to maintain her independence. The facility staff often leave her in a wheelchair throughout the day due to staffing limitations, which has led to leg swelling and reduced mobility. Her daughter and sister visit regularly to walk with her, but they're seeking consistent professional support to ensure she stays active and engaged during the week.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with walker mobility and encourage regular walking throughout the facility
- Take her downstairs to the courtyard or lobby for fresh air and social engagement
- Help her lie down with legs elevated when needed to reduce swelling
- Provide companionship and one-on-one attention during visits
- Guide her safely in the hallways and common areas
- Potentially assist with outdoor mobility using her scooter (optional, based on caregiver comfort)
- Call facility PSWs for toileting assistance as needed, or provide support if comfortable
- May occasionally run errands for preferred snacks or items not provided by the facility
What We're Looking For:
- PSW certification required
- Experience with walker assistance and mobility support in long-term care settings
- Italian-speaking strongly preferred for comfort and communication, but English-speaking caregivers will be considered
- Patient, calm demeanor with positive energy
- Reliable and consistent attendance
- Takes initiative to keep the client active and engaged
- Strong communication skills with family members
- Respects client independence while providing necessary support
Schedule:
Starting with three visits per week, two hours per visit (6 hours weekly minimum). Days and times are flexible and can be discussed. The family plans to increase hours once their mother's home is sold and additional funds become available. They're looking to begin care immediately and build a consistent relationship with the right caregiver.
