Northland Floral is seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Director, Transportation & Network Development to lead the evolution of Transportation from an operational support function into a strategic growth platform.
The role is responsible for transportation and logistics execution while pursuing opportunities to maximize asset utilization, develop backhaul and third-party freight opportunities, optimize routes, establish strategic partnerships, and enhance cross-docking capabilities.
The successful candidate will build scalable transportation systems, improve network performance, and position transportation as a driver of future growth and competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute Northland's transportation growth strategy, including transportation network expansion, capital recommendations, and scalable operating frameworks.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve asset utilization, generate incremental revenue, and expand transportation services, including backhauls, third-party freight, strategic partnerships, and customer-focused logistics solutions.
- Assess and develop cross-docking and distribution capabilities that enhance service, expand network reach, and leverage existing facilities and transportation assets.
- Optimize routes, transportation planning, network utilization, and fleet productivity through analytics, technology, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Establish KPIs to monitor transportation performance, asset utilization, customer service, and financial results.
- Provide leadership and oversight for transportation operations, fleet management, team development, regulatory compliance, and delivery execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, Operations, Business, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, distribution, or network management.
- Proven success developing transportation capabilities, optimizing assets, and driving operational growth, including backhaul, third-party freight, and revenue-generating initiatives.
- Experience within perishables, horticulture, agriculture, food distribution, temperature-sensitive supply chains, and cross-border transportation is considered an asset.
- Strategic, entrepreneurial, and financially astute leader with strong analytical, systems-thinking, change management, and collaboration skills.
Salary: $150k; Candidates with exceptional experience may be considered beyond the stated salary.
