Job Description- Studio Assistant
At Painted Parrot Pottery, we believe that everyone is creative, and we help guide our customers and students to uncover and develop their own creative skills through visual arts. We’re passionate about sharing art in a fun, safe environment that builds a community. We offer a retail ceramic studio as well as art classes, birthday parties, social art events, and corporate team building.
Hours of work – 32 per week (4 days @ 8) Thursday and Friday 12:30 to 8:30pm and Saturday and Sunday 9:30am to 5:30pm. Potential to expand to a 40hr work week.
Role overview
The role will be focused on the day-to-day operations of the pottery studio. This will include firing work, looking after materials, maintenance and Health & Safety of the studio. You will keep track of bisque/clay artwork from our customers and students: ensuring all pieces are handled with the utmost care during storage, glazing and firing processes. You will have excellent organizational and planning skills to keep track of everyone’s work and our kiln schedules. Glaze chemistry is your expertise, and you know the difference between a 06 and 6 cone just by feel. You’ll report to the Studio Owners, helping to run the studio smoothly. You’re a team player who approaches life and work with a positive attitude and an infectious sense of curiosity.
The Studio Assistant will develop, propose and execute programs to expand the reach and revenue streams.
Duties and Responsibilities
-Well organized and able to manage their own time effectively
-Ensure a high level of cleanliness is kept, following the daily/weekly cleaning checklists
-Keep all equipment, tools, and supplies organized, clean and in good working order
-Safe operation of all equipment and adherence to proper handling of all products in the studio according to WHMIS standards
-Planning and executing Studio events, including sourcing supplies and decorations.
-Mix and maintain our glazes, slips, and reclaim clay
-Manager the storage systems in the studio.
-Track inventory and create orders as needed. This includes receiving, shelving and storing products.
-When needed, glaze customer pieces, load and unload the kiln, document all necessary paperwork
-Manage the upkeep of the kiln furniture and communicate with PPP staff about any problems or maintenance required
-Actively participate in training, staff meetings, and planning sessions
-Arrive with sufficient time to start work at start of shift
-Support revenue targets
-Maintain a helpful & friendly approach to customer service, staying informed of studio and class new.
-Ensure health and safety practices are followed
-Efficiently deal with incidents, problems and emergencies as outlined by policies and procedures.
-Respond to inquiries in a friendly & helpful manner
-Social Media including Facebook, Instagram and Tick Tok

Conditions of Employment
-Shifts will be Thursday and Friday 12:30 to 8:30pm and Saturday and Sunday 9:30am to 5:30 pm, may expand to include Wednesday.
-Work involves mental and visual concentration with frequent interruptions and some physical activity is involved
-must be able to lift or move heavy objects (up to 40lb) such as bags of clay, pottery equipment and chairs.
-all offers of employment are conditional on a Criminal Reference Check, Vulnerable Sector Screening, and valid WHMIS, First Aid and CPR certificates.
-Must be able to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
Rate of Pay
The role is part time, paid hourly, at a rate of $20/hr, or depending on experience, with 4% vacation pay.
