At HMFT, we believe our people drive our success. We foster a collaborative, safety-focused environment where employees are empowered to learn, contribute, and grow their careers.
Position Overview:
HMFT is seeking a Technical Systems Sales Specialist to join our Finishing Division (in Calgary or Edmonton), specializing in powder coating, liquid finishing, and adhesive application systems.
This role leads the technical side of the sales and project lifecycle, partnering closely with Business Development Managers (BDMs) to transform customer requirements into engineered finishing solutions. From initial discovery and requirements gathering through quoting, solution design, and project execution, you will play a critical role in delivering complex, value-added solutions that help customers optimize their operations.
The ideal candidate combines technical expertise, strong project management capabilities, and a consultative approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
· Lead structured “Gameplan” meetings to capture requirements, constraints, throughput, and regulatory needs, then design integrated finishing solutions (booths, spray, ovens, conveyors, etc.) and select appropriate configurations from HMFT’s product lines.
· Quoting & Technical Sales Support: Own the technical side of quoting by building accurate proposals with robust estimating tools, partnering with the BDM in customer discussions, coordinating with OEMs (e.g., Graco, Nordson, GFS) for data and pricing, meeting deadlines, and producing plant layouts in AutoCAD.
· Project Management: After a sale, manage projects end-to-end through charters, timelines, and tracking, coordinating all parties to control scope, schedule, and quality, and delivering final documentation at completion.
· Subject Matter Expertise & Technical Support: Act as the internal finishing systems expert, supporting service and customers with troubleshooting, staying current on standards and developments, and continuously deepening knowledge of HMFT products and OEM capabilities.
· CRM/ERP & Process Management: Run the full project lifecycle in NetSuite, maintaining accurate quote and project records for visibility and forecasting, and ensuring all activities follow defined processes and data‑quality standards.

· Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial paint finishing, powder coating, or related finishing systems.
· Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, hydraulics, fluid handling systems, or related industrial equipment.
· Experience developing estimates, budgetary quotations, and commercial proposals.
· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to develop and maintain estimating tools.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
· Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical drawings, production layouts, and equipment specifications.
· Proficient in AutoCAD.
· Experience working with ERP and CRM systems; NetSuite experience is considered an asset.
· Ability to travel to the US for product training.
Preferred Qualifications
· CET (Certified Engineering Technologist) designation
· Experience designing integrated finishing systems consisting of spray equipment, booths, ovens, conveyors, curing systems, and related technologies.
· Familiarity with manufacturers such as Graco, Nordson, or Global Finishing Solutions
· Project management experience within industrial, manufacturing, or engineered equipment environments.
· Experience supporting capital equipment or systems-based sales projects.
Key Competencies
· Discovery & Requirements Gathering: Skilled at asking targeted questions to uncover customer needs before proposing solutions
· Systems-Level Thinking: Ability to visualize how multiple finishing components integrate and recognize interdependencies
· Technical Translation: Converts customer language into technical solutions and vice versa
· Estimating & Proposal Development: Produces quick, accurate preliminary estimates and designs estimating tools to improve turnaround
· Project Management: Manages scope, schedule, and deliverable quality from sale through completion
· Communication: Strong written and verbal skills for effective correspondence with customers, manufacturers, and internal teams
