Job Overview
If you have ever considered experiencing New Zealand we have a FULL TIME, FIXED TERM contract available for automotive technicians for our summer in our workshops in both Auckland and Hamilton. The position runs from November to March (exact dates negotiable). NOTE - the job is not in British Columbia - we were forced to put in a physical address to list the ad.
Applicants must be willing to work from any of our branches as required (transport provided) with overnight stays as required. Company accommodation is available when working away from an employee's normal base and may also be available for relocation purposes.
There are two possible pathways:
Working Holiday Visa - for applicants between 18-35. If you have genuine automotive experience and can satisfy us you have what it takes to work in our busy summer environment, including dashboard removal/reinstall for evaporator replacements.
Skilled Migrant Visa - for applicants over 35, you must be able to demonstrate at least 2-years of specialist automotive air-conditioning experience in your CV to be considered as this is the requirement for the position for immigration/visa purposes. CVs that do not explicitly show your experience in this area cannot be considered. You would need to be able to provide support of your experience such as references, verbal referee checks, job contracts, pay slips showing that you have the requisite experience in air-conditioning. The job may suit specialist automotive air-conditioning technicians, auto electricians or mechanics.
CoolCar Air-Conditioning & Heating is the leading automotive air-conditioning specialist in our areas, working in a multi-refrigerant environment. As we do not simply regas, we carry out a lot of complex vehicle diagnoses and repairs, especially evaporator replacements. Experience and confidence working inside the dash is a must.
The work is dynamic because of the wide range of vehicles we work on. Primarily workshop based on light vehicles, some mobile work on cars and heavy vehicles may be required.
We also conduct auto electrical diagnosis and repairs on air-conditioning and other vehicle systems, light transport refrigeration, portable fridge repairs, roof top vehicle AC installations and repairs, mechanical servicing and repairs, and all manner of other maintenance requirements on caravans and motor homes.

- Diagnose and repair automotive air-conditioning & heating in vehicle air-conditioning systems between our workshops in Auckland and Hamilton.
- Mobile call outs.
- Install vehicle air-conditioning equipment and components, including condensers, compressors and evaporators.
- Diagnose and repair auto electrical problems related to air-conditioning.
- Competently work without direct supervision
- Confidently translate evaluations of faulty vehicles into sales.
- Other mechanical, auto electrical and other repairs as required
- Workshop and equipment maintenance
Key Terms & Conditions
- This is a full time, fixed term position during our busy summer season
- Ordinary hours are 0800-1630 Monday to Friday. Minimum guaranteed hours per week are 40.
- Remuneration is between $30.00-$37.00 CA/hour based on experience.
- Our business is summer seasonal so your availability for extra hours and hard work over the summertime is essential. Several hours of paid overtime can be expected each week including rostered and extra Saturdays.
- If asked, you must work up to an additional 10-hours overtime per week including rostered and extra Saturdays, to cater for the seasonal customer demand. In recognition, Availability Compensation is paid per ordinary hour worked at a rate of an additional $50/week for 40 ordinary hours (pro rata), plus your hourly rate for any overtime hours worked, up to 10 hours per week. Further overtime is by mutual agreement only and compensated for at your normal hourly rate.
- In addition, in recognition of your skill and dedication to our business during this important time of year, we pay a Completion Bonus totalling $3,840 NZD. The bonus accrues weekly and is payable at the conclusion of the fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance and compliance with company policies and procedures and will go a long way towards coving your immigration costs.

Minimum Qualifications & Work Experience
- Experience in automotive air-conditioning diagnosis and repairs (minimum 2 years for skilled work visa).
- Proficiency removing and installing key automotive air-conditioning components.
- Able to work on automotive air-conditioning systems independently and without direct supervision.
- Able to drive competently, with a New Zealand Driver's Licence or International Driver's Licence
- English language skills sufficient to follow and complete job cards, carry out quoting, training and day-to-day interactions with customers and co-workers.
- Physically fit to manage the work required
