Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive Legal Assistant to join our busy family law practice. The ideal candidate is professional, dependable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities with accuracy and discretion. The successful candidate will have excellent research, writing, and organizational skills, along with a strong understanding of legal procedures, court rules, and legal documentation. You will play a key role in supporting our lawyers by managing files, maintaining critical deadlines, and ensuring matters progress efficiently from start to finish.
The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional attention to detail, strong time management skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment. Experience in family law is considered a strong asset, and a commitment to providing compassionate, client-focused service is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, draft, proofread, and file a variety of legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, and court forms.
- Maintain and organize both electronic and physical client files with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Schedule client meetings, mediations, settlement conferences, court appearances, examinations, and other appointments.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor a comprehensive bring-forward system to track important deadlines, limitation periods, court dates, and follow-up tasks.
- Conduct legal and factual research as directed.
- Assist lawyers in preparing for trials, hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and other legal proceedings.
- Perform data entry, file management, and other administrative tasks to support the legal team.
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court registries, and other third parties.
- Ensure all documents are accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable court rules and legal standards.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working as a Legal Assistant in a law firm is required.
- Experience in a family law practice is considered an asset.
- Strong administrative and office experience, including file management, scheduling, and data entry.
- Proficiency with Clio and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.
- Professional, reliable, and committed to maintaining client confidentiality.
- A positive attitude and a compassionate, client-focused approach when interacting with clients experiencing family law matters.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation are required.
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in all aspects of work.
- Ability to commute to the office and attend court, client meetings, or other work-related locations as required. This is an in-person position.

Pay: $38,000.00-$50,000.00 per year
