Homeschool Teacher (Grades 4–7) Location: County of Grande Prairie, Alberta Position Type: Part-Time (Independent Contractor or Employee – to be determined)
Schedule: Approximately 3 hours per day, 4 days per week
Compensation: Negotiable based on qualifications and experience
Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, engaging, and experienced Homeschool Teacher to provide individualized instruction for one student in Grades 4–7. The successful candidate will create a positive, structured learning environment while adapting teaching methods to meet the student's academic and developmental needs. Experience working with children on the autism spectrum (mild autism) is essential.
The ideal candidate is patient, flexible, and able to build a trusting relationship while encouraging academic growth, confidence, and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with the Alberta curriculum or the family's chosen homeschool program.
- Adapt instructional methods to accommodate the student's learning style and individual needs.
- Teach core subjects including Mathematics, English Language, Science, and Social Studies.
- Foster a supportive, encouraging, and structured learning environment.
- Monitor academic progress and provide regular updates to parents.
- Modify lessons and pacing based on the student's strengths and areas requiring additional support.
- Incorporate hands-on, practical, and interest-based learning opportunities where appropriate.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment.
Qualifications
- Teaching degree or education
-related qualification preferred.
- Experience teaching elementary or junior high students.
- Demonstrated experience supporting children with mild autism or other diverse learning needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, creative, organized, and dependable.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (or willingness to obtain one).
- Current First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
Preferred Experience
- Previous homeschooling or individualized tutoring experience.
- Knowledge of Alberta curriculum outcomes.
- Experience developing individualized learning plans.
- Familiarity with executive functioning supports and sensory-friendly learning strategies.
