This is a temporary, full-time position with Mental Health and Substance Use services at the Eric Martin Pavilion in Victoria on Vancouver Island, BC. The position is expected to run until March 3, 2028, pending the return of the incumbent.
This role is embedded within one of Island Health’s five Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams and includes an outreach-based case management caseload. Approximately 80% of services are delivered in community settings. The successful candidate will also provide occupational therapy consultation to the other four ACT teams.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with weekends and statutory holidays off. Regular travel is required, including the use of a personal vehicle.
What You’ll Do
As an MHSU Case Worker and Occupational Therapist, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary therapeutic team to assess, coordinate and deliver case management and clinical occupational therapy services. Working primarily in community settings, you will:
- manage a caseload of clients living with severe and persistent mental illness and significant cognitive impairment;
- assess clients’ physical, psychological, functional and environmental needs;
- coordinate and deliver therapeutic, case management and occupational therapy services;
- develop and implement care plans in collaboration with clients, families and the multidisciplinary clinical team;
- provide consultation to clients and care teams in community, acute care and tertiary settings;
- work closely with vocational rehabilitation specialists;
- facilitate and participate in therapeutic group work; and
- collaborate with families, physicians, psychiatrists, community agencies and other health-care partners.
What You Will Need to Apply
- Graduation from a recognized university program in Occupational Therapy.
- Current licensure in a practising category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (CHCPBC) as an Occupational Therapist.
- Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).
- Two years of recent, related experience, including experience in a mental health and substance use environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Knowledge of serious psychiatric disorders, including affective disorders and schizophrenia, and their treatment using a comprehensive biopsychosocial model of care.
- Experience or knowledge related to concurrent mental health and substance use disorders.
- A valid BC driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle that meets the operational requirements of the position.
